Bits and pieces of the writing conference are swirling in my head. I take a long time to process and distill all of the ideas, inspirations, and images from such an amazing event. I was sad to learn of the death of author Sue Alexander on July 3rd. Although I never had the chance to meet her, I know that Sue was a talented author and generous friend to the SCBWI. I wanted to learn more about her today, and I came across a gem on her website.

I’m still gathering my thoughts about the wonderful SCBWI Conference I attended in NYC. As always, the keynotes were the highlights for me. It was exciting to hear the words of Susan Patron, Richard Peck, and Nikki Grimes. I will post about them at a later time. February is here, and most people on Cape Cod were looking a little glum this morning due to the surprising results of the Super Bowl.

My daughter Rose  (age 11) is a voracious reader, and she has enjoyed hearing about my adventures at the SCBWI Conference in LA.  When I rattle off the names of all the authors I saw and listened to, she gets starry-eyed!  She loved hearing me talk about my interactions with poet and anthologist Lee Bennett Hopkins.
