Well, you know... They could ask. Also, the procedure hurts. and people tend to die from phosphorus poisoning from the treatments. So it's more like: You drink from a river some guy creeps up behind you and while you sleep add stuff to it so he can drink from it. You don't know it, but the new additives in the river are giving you stomach cramps and diorrhea. Only since you don't know about the additive, you don't know it's the water. To you the stranger says: "hey, mind if I camp here next to you?" and then you say "whats in it for me" and he tells you about the tent and the food.
Okay, fair enough. But surely, if they'd asked, people would have say yes, right? It's a really good deal. It's not like the Torchwood Children of Earth-deal. Wouldn't you handle a little pain and potential poisoning if you knew, without a doubt, that your sacrifice would cure cancer or provide free, environmentally friendly energy for the entire world?
and the dying of phosphorus part? The breeding? I understood that they actually removed strands from the human DNA. The subjects suffer from it. I'm sure that if they asked a few would say yes, but the majority would say no.
And really. Just ask. They've been here for so many years. Why the secrecy, and why wait until now whith the revelation? There are plot holes yes, but the V's don't seem all too friendly if you ask me.
No, but that's precisely my point. Why all the secrecy and crap if this is their ultimate plan? It's the plot holes that bug me. If this was done on purpose and their ultimate plan was worse, then someone would have said "that don't sound too bad. Why all the secrecy?" So I think it's a case of bad writing.
And they don't need the majority of humans to say yes, just a select few. Let's be honest, I'm sure the government and society would put considerable pressure on the chosen to say yes if their payment would make the whole world a better place.
Also, there's something about them infiltrating governments, businesses, religions and oh yeah having a MASSIVE fleet somewhere out beyond the moon that doesn't sit too comfortably with me. They may be here to upgrade their genome, but somehow I don't think that's all their after. That's what the characters in the Fifth Column think, too. *IF* they were really that benign, why would they go to all the trouble of infiltrating our shit for the past 20-40 years?
Then the fifth column people should say that. Not "they're trying to share our DNA. We will stop them. No matter what." (Let's not ask any more obvious questions guys, like why is there a giant fleet there if all they want is some DNA samples?)
I think the fifth column is saying "hey, now we know what this part of their plan entails. Let's try to stop THAT part to stop the WHOLE thing." Like untangling a big ass knot, yanno? Pull on whatever strings you see until it all unravels.
The big question is "why don't they give the media a skinned Visitor"? Yanno, one without the meatsack on all lizardy and nasty looking.
Yeah, why not? And why don't they release the footage of people crying, talking about their painful live-aboard program? And why doesn't Erica tell her son why it is that these v's are bad?
They don't want to "share" our DNA, they want to take parts of it, which ends up killing us in the process.
They may have cured the atmosphere, but it was also said that they changed it, in order to support their life, and it was referenced that in the future it may not be suitable for human habitation. I'm pretty sure that their main goal is to take over Earth, and not share it.
But that doesn't make any sense: why would they want to take over earth if their goal is to travel throughout the universe, improving their species by accelerated evolution?
Also: most of the people from the live aboard programs (where they steal the DNA) have come back down and are perfectly fine. They seem to only take samples. How would that steal the DNA?
