Well, you know... They could ask. Also, the procedure hurts. and people tend to die from phosphorus poisoning from the treatments. So it's more like: You drink from a river some guy creeps up behind you and while you sleep add stuff to it so he can drink from it. You don't know it, but the new additives in the river are giving you stomach cramps and diorrhea. Only since you don't know about the additive, you don't know it's the water. To you the stranger says: "hey, mind if I camp here next to you?" and then you say "whats in it for me" and he tells you about the tent and the food.
Okay, fair enough. But surely, if they'd asked, people would have say yes, right? It's a really good deal. It's not like the Torchwood Children of Earth-deal. Wouldn't you handle a little pain and potential poisoning if you knew, without a doubt, that your sacrifice would cure cancer or provide free, environmentally friendly energy for the entire world?
and the dying of phosphorus part? The breeding? I understood that they actually removed strands from the human DNA. The subjects suffer from it. I'm sure that if they asked a few would say yes, but the majority would say no.
And really. Just ask. They've been here for so many years. Why the secrecy, and why wait until now whith the revelation? There are plot holes yes, but the V's don't seem all too friendly if you ask me.
No, but that's precisely my point. Why all the secrecy and crap if this is their ultimate plan? It's the plot holes that bug me. If this was done on purpose and their ultimate plan was worse, then someone would have said "that don't sound too bad. Why all the secrecy?" So I think it's a case of bad writing.
And they don't need the majority of humans to say yes, just a select few. Let's be honest, I'm sure the government and society would put considerable pressure on the chosen to say yes if their payment would make the whole world a better place.

The bad science certainly sounds painful.
