I don't know if any of you watch the remake of the show V? If you do, please help me out.
In the original show, the main plot was that the visitors seemed benign, but were really using people as a food supply. Fair enough. In the new version, however, they're traveling through the universe, picking out the best of other races' DNA and incorporating it in their own. Making them the ultimate super-race.
Here's my problem: Why is this so bad? Why do the humans have to use suicide bombers and coordinate massive strikes against the V's to stop them from using our DNA to make themselves better? There's no mention that this would mean the end of the human race. Or that the people who's DNA they're selecting will even suffer from it.
The show is saying "These guys want to share our DNA." I'm waiting for someone to say: "Oh. Okay. What're the downsides?" But nobody's saying that. Instead they treat it like it's a really bad thing. But it isn't, right?
The visitors show up and end world hunger, brings universal health care, solves the problem with cancer and in return they just want samples of our DNA to add to their own. I'd say that's a great trade for us.
Imagine you were drinking from a stream. Someone came up to you and said "Hey, I'm really thirsty, do you think I could drink from your stream too?" You say: "Gee, I don't know. What's in it for me?" He says: "Well, I'll share my meal, fire and tent with you." The stream won't stop flowing if you both drink from it and he's giving you a bunch of stuff in return so you say: "No way dude" and shoot him in the chest.
