Dealer's Room applications are open for FC today. This time they're doing a juried selection like Rainfurrest, but I have a bit more confidence in them being able to do it properly, rather than the nepotistic clusterfuck that was Rainfurrest's selection process.
I was not planning to go see Mad Max, but Dwight wanted to, so we went. If you're up for a non-stop chase scene with nary a pause to catch your breath, look no further. My standards for movies aren't too high-- if I'm not bored, if it looks good and doesn't utterly insult my intelligence, then I'm happy. I'm not sure why certain people are whining about the movie's 'feminist agenda." I sure didn't see any. I mean, they had two men with them and they would've been killed a dozen times over without those men. That doesn't appear to be particularly feminist to me.
Loved the guitar guy in it.
Went to the Natural History Museum's bug fair Saturday with Ruggels. Not quite as extensive as previous years, but still a million screaming kids that quickly wore on my patience. We also went to the dinosaur and fossil mammals exhibits, as well as a Los Angeles historical exhibit.
A couple weeks ago I was unexpectly contacted by a current student at CalArts who was putting together a 1971-current retrospective of student animation. I was very shocked (to say the least) that they wanted to put my junior year film (the ELO train film) as part of the show. There were about 50 other films from that era that were better than mine. I thought maybe they wanted it as a goof or something, but when I spoke to the person(s) organizing it, they seemed genuinly to like the film. Go figure. It was kind of an odd show, because 90% of the films were mostly this kind of odd experimental animation-- you know the stuff they show at festivals with flashing shapes, wierd sounds and avant garde stories that make no sense? They assured me that most of what I saw was from the Character Animation department. I guess I'm really out of touch.
It rained last week. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow or Friday. Shocking for this time of year.
Still working on commissions. Endlessly.
