There were two fledglings that I knew of. One of them apparently was injured falling out of the nest, and had trouble sitting upright, hopping and perching (as in, it couldn't do any of those things.) But the parents were still feeding it, and I put in in a basket off the ground at night so the raccoons and neighbor cats couldn't get it.
It disappeared Saturday evening, before I could put it in the basket. I suspect the neighbor cat may have gotten it, or maybe it recovered enough to hop somewhere safe. The second fledgling is fine-- I can still hear it squawking in the trees at the neighbor's house.
I'm still not sure why baby birds leave the nest when they're still days away from being able to fly at all.
