Spring

I went for a walk around Lake Balboa today.  All the cherry trees were in full bloom.  Millions of coots, a good population of widgeons and mallards, a bunch of comerants, and a swan!  I've never seen a swan there before.  It appeared to be a juvenile tundra (whistling) swan.  Very big!  Gorgeous day today-- mid-60's to low 70's, sunny with not too much wind.

So far I got 1 person who managed to get all the birds in the alphabet picture, and one who's come cose.  Color me impressed they both managed to get the Q and Z birds with no hints.

There was an article on the CNN site today about descrimination against caucasians.  While I think most of my job hunting troubles are due to my age, a LOT of the job descriptions in the LA area require you to be bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Armenian,  which pretty much guarentees a caucasian won't be getting the job.  The only time you can really learn a second language and be fluent is when you're a child, and growing up in the midwest in the 60's and 70's, the idea of second language never entered into the curriculum. (unless you wanted to learn Hebrew.  Then you could go to one of the Jewish schools in the area.)

Screwed again, as they say.

birds, life in la, culture
