It had been a hard few days. Marlow couldn't explain the weight she felt on her heart, the way her body fought against her most of the time, not wanting her to even get out of her bed in the morning. She had her better moments, letting herself become distracted by her students or by her friends and what was going on in their lives. It was easy to ignore the heaviness she felt dragging her down.
But it wasn't unnoticed.
Jonah had been especially watchful over the past few weeks, checking in on her when he didn't have practice and practically begging her to come to one of his matches, telling her it would be good to be out of the castle.
He didn't let up.
Which is why Marlow found herself outside of the White Lie, huddled up in her wool coat against the brisk Sunday chill. What brought her here? She had no idea. She hadn't seen Patrick since their first meeting. But still, she hadn't been able to get him out of her head, her mind always drifting back to that morning.
So, with a deep breath, she stepped inside, finding it much busier than it was on New Year's Day. She pulled her gloves from her hands, taking a moment to tuck her hair behind her ears. She looked much neater than she did that day, her hair styled in sleek waves and a little dab of pink on her lips.
With a relieved breath, she caught sight of Patrick behind the bar and moved toward him, drumming up whatever courage she could find.
