A few weeks ago I came down with a sinus headache that stuck around for two weeks at varying levels of ache, from low grade to ice pick in the eyeball. After waking up with a nosebleed for the 2nd time in a week, I decided that maybe a visit to an ENT specialist was in order.
His name is Dr. Bacon and yes, I picked him from my list of network providers solely for the joke of having Bacon up my nose.
I paid for the irony, however, by spending 90 minutes in his office for 10 minutes of PA time and 5 minutes of his time. All to be scheduled for a CT scan of my sinuses and allergy tests.
Two days of allergy tests later, I now know that I'm allergic to damn near everything (the dust sticks damn near grew me a third arm, they swelled so much) but it's really not something I didn't already know.
The thing is, I didn't go in about allergies. I went in for a two week sinus headache and nosebleeds. I've been managing my allergies just fine all my adult life. I've adapted to having a whacked sense of smell. I don't think much of having to do weekly allergy shots for 18+ months.
So my question is: are allergy shots worth it? What other options are out there?
