Бальный блокнот-carnet de bal.18-19 век.
В 18 и 19 веке на бал дамы брали с собой карне, или
"carnet de bal" - записную книжку- блокнот для бала.
На них во время бала, в театре и т. п. было принято писать записки, обычно куртуазного содержания.
Позже он стал использоваться, как блокнот для записи имен партнеров.
Карне делали из драгоценных материалов: золота, серебра,перламутра, черепахи, украшали драгоценными камнями и эмалями, росписью и миниатюрными портретами.
Даже странички-вкладыши в нем поначалу были из слоновой кости.

Он выглядел, как небольшой плоский футляр на цепочке с несколькими крышками, и иногда с отделениями для косметических средств, содержал также костяную пластину для записей и карандаш.
Но были карне и других форм- удлиненные, в виде небольшого несессера.

Особую популярность карне получили в начале 19 века, с приходом менее формальных парных танцев.
Считалось неприличным танцевать много танцев с одним партнером, обычно , если это не жених- не больше 3-4-х танцев.
Карне содержало последовательность танцев, для каждого танца можно было записать имя партнера, который вас пригласил, иначе можно было легко запутаться.

Карне служило напоминанием танцору для каждого конкретного танца.
Наряду с портбукетом, карне становится обязательным элементом бального туалета.

Постепенно бальными блокнотами стали пользоваться и мужчины.

Карне со временем принимало разные формы. При чем со временем его стали изготавливать из ценных материалов, используя серебро, слоновую кость и жемчуг. Позже это были блокноты с количеством листов, равным числу танцев, а еще позже - карточка, листок картона.

Dance cards became popular items at balls and assemblies in the early 19th century when the more formal balls used in the previous century were abandoned.
The minuets, danced one couple at a time in a rigidly prescribed order defined by the social rank of the dancers, gave way entirely to less formal dances as quadrilles and dances done with a single partner, like the waltz and the polka.
In the new social context the 'Dance cards' ('carnet de bal' in French) were used by ladies to keep track of the gentleman to whom they had promised dances in the course of the evening.
The ladies participated in the ball with their personal 'Dance card' contained into an elaborate cover of bone, silver or ivory, often with miniature petit point canvas inserts.
They were small enough to be readily portable and, together with the 'posy holder' (tussie mussie), were an indispensable complement to a lady's accessorizing.

Personal 'Dance cards' were less common at the end of the 19th century when a simple card or a card folded in half were prepared by the 'dance committee', reporting the description of the occasion for the event, the location and the date.
The interior of the 'dance card' usually contained a list of the evening's dances, with spaces provided for the names of the gentlemen to whom the lady had promised them. Covers were especially colorful and elaborate and afterwards served as mementos of the occasion.

Dance cards became popular items at balls and assemblies in the early 19th century when the more formal balls used in the previous century were abandoned.
The minuets, danced one couple at a time in a rigidly prescribed order defined by the social rank of the dancers, gave way entirely to less formal dances as quadrilles and dances done with a single partner, like the waltz and the polka.
In the new social context the 'Dance cards' ('carnet de bal' in French) were used by ladies to keep track of the gentleman to whom they had promised dances in the course of the evening.
The ladies participated in the ball with their personal 'Dance card' contained into an elaborate cover of bone, silver or ivory, often with miniature petit point canvas inserts.
They were small enough to be readily portable and, together with the 'posy holder' (tussie mussie), were an indispensable complement to a lady's accessorizing.

Personal 'Dance cards' were less common at the end of the 19th century when a simple card or a card folded in half were prepared by the 'dance committee', reporting the description of the occasion for the event, the location and the date.
The interior of the 'dance card' usually contained a list of the evening's dances, with spaces provided for the names of the gentlemen to whom the lady had promised them. Covers were especially colorful and elaborate and afterwards served as mementos of the occasion.
