Boss-chan 3: WHY HE’S SO CRABBY
Nishikido Ryo’s patience was surely being tried today. The boys were all getting on his nerves. Massu was late and he was wearing a ridiculous outfit; Yamapi whined all throughout the photoshoot; Koyama and Shige were being gay, as usual, and he was fed up with their stupidity. He stood on stand-by for their performance and luckily, they were doing Akai Hana and Boom! Boom! Power today, no need to smile much. The boys were all on the other side of the stage looking warily at the moody member and trying to stay out of his way as much as possible. Everyone but Tegoshi had been a victim of the sharp-tongued boy’s temper and he was very much relieved about it.
Tegoshi didn’t intend to become a victim of Ryo’s wrath. Instead, he wanted to be the only one he praised today. He mentally rehearsed the steps to the song and prepared himself for the performance. It was a taped performance, so even if they had errors, they could re-tape it. But no one intended to make a mistake today. They knew that if they didn’t get this in one shot, Ryo would erupt like a volcano out of control.
They took their places onstage and the music started. Ryo shot each member a warning glance that if they make a mistake, they will die a slow and painful death by his hand. Each member nodded and looked determined not to make a mistake. They were perfect today; they even danced in sync! And Ryo looked at them with approval. Finally, a smile appeared on Boss-chan’s face.
They sighed in relief as the song ended and rushed to watch the playback. Ryo nodded approvingly at the boys and smiled. Maybe today, he would forgive them and maybe even apologize. They did really well!
“Ne, Ryo-chan, “ Tegoshi started and put an arm around him. “See, we were good today. Maybe you can stop pouting now?”
Ryo glanced at Tegoshi and shook his head with a chuckle. “Maybe I need to.” The second verse started and Ryo stared at the screen. Something was very wrong here…
His eyes narrowed as he saw Tegoshi moving, but he was moving in the wrong direction and doing the wrong steps. He pouted; what was Tegoshi thinking? He then realized that the move Tegoshi was doing was one verse off. If it were only barely noticeable, Ryo would have let it slip, but he did it all throughout the performance and Ryo felt that his fury was bubbling over. They had to do a re-take.
“Tegoshi…” Ryo started to say with gritted teeth.
Tegoshi smiled and looked up at his friend. “Hai, Ryo-chan?” He wasn’t watching the playback and was instead watching Massu, who was doing some kind of weird dance or code to him. What was Massu trying to say? Massu was mimicking a running motion, crossing his arms in front of him and pretending to be dead. He giggled; Massu was really funny.
Ryo turned to Tegoshi and met his eyes with fury. Tegoshi melted underneath the gaze. Uh.. what did he do wrong? Why was Ryo looking at him like that? He looked at the playback. He was doing the right - wait. What was he doing?
He slowly realized his mistake a bit too late because by now, Ryo had his hands around his neck . GAH! He was going to die!
“Ryo-chan! No!” Massu ran towards Tegoshi, followed by Koyama and Yamapi who tried, with difficulty, to pry Ryo off the boy. Shige pulled Tegoshi to safety and put the scared young man behind him to protect him.
“I’m going to kill you, you fucking retard! Pay attention to your steps, goddamnit!” Ryo cursed left and right angrily. He really didn’t feel like re-doing this.
“Ah, gomen!” Tegoshi said in a small voice. “I’ll do it perfect this time!”
“You better! Let me go!” Ryo snapped at everyone as he walked away. He needed a breather and bad before the re-take.
Koyama quickly talked to the director and they were soon setting up for the re-take. Tomohisa ran outside to find Ryo and talk to him. Something was definitely wrong with Ryo and he needed to find out what it was.
He found the boy brooding in the exit stairwell. He sat leaning on a wall and he had his legs stretched out in front of him. For the first time, he noticed that Ryo’s lips were red and he was sweating buckets.
“Ryo-chan?” he called out and approached the boy cautiously.
“Leave me alone,” Ryo growled.
“No, I was just checking if you wanted to talk. It looks like you need a friend,” Yamapi said as he sat next to the boy. “Are you feeling alright?”
“No, isn’t that obvious?” Ryo snapped and slumped back into the wall. “I’m feeling even worse with you idiots being annoying today.”
Yamapi pressed his palm to Ryo’s forehead. The boy was burning up. “You’re not even supposed to be out of bed today. You’re burning up.”
Ryo shrugged. “I’ve performed in worse. Let’s just do the re-take and go home.”
“Why didn’t you tell us you were feeling bad?” Yamapi asked now with a concerned pout on his face.
“I didn’t want you guys to treat me like an invalid,” Ryo said, knowing full well that that was how they would treat him if they knew. “Koyama-mama would fawn over me and I’d be really annoyed.”
“Like you aren’t already?”
“Shut up and if you tell them I’m sick I’ll kill you.”
“Alright. Well, let’s just go.” Yamapi nodded as he helped the boy up. “Take it easy.”
“Yamashita, I’m not an invalid. I can take care of myself,” Ryo said as he moved ahead of Yamapi. Seriously these guys are impossible.
Inside, the guys were in place, and ready for the re-take. Yamapi nodded to Koyama and the guys as they cued the music. The boys danced even more carefully this time, trying to make things perfect so the moody boy didn’t blow up. Tegoshi especially paid attention and Massu watched over each one to remind them of the next set of steps.
When it was all over, Ryo sighed and watched the playback. That was better. He nodded to everyone his approval and went off to change.
Once he was gone, the boys breathed a sigh of relief. Yamapi told them that Ryo was sick and that everyone should be considerate of him today. They nodded and said that they were used to it as they filed back into the dressing room where they found Ryo fast asleep on the couch. Yamapi smiled as the boys helped Koyama and Yamapi change Ryo into his regular clothes and carry him to the bus. Maybe Boss-chan was not so tough after all.
