Boss -chan 002:
It seemed that everything went from bad to worse for the boys and Ryo's mood. Just when Ryo had calmed down about Massu's outfit, he found something else to fume about. This time his fury was directed at Tomohisa, who was whining non-stop about the colors of the yukata he was given to wear for the shoot. It was pink for crying out loud and he didn’t like it. But Ryo couldn’t care less. All he cared about was the fact that Tomohisa was currently holding up the shoot and delaying their precious time.
If this was there only engagement of the day, Ryo would have been more forgiving. However, their time was limited, and they had other places to go to other than this. Besides, he was really trying Ryo's patience and it didn’t produce any good results. Ryo was now tapping his foot in annoyance as he stared at the boy who was whining continuously at the costume designers and refused to wear the garment.
“But it’s pink!” Yamashita Tomohisa complained, pushing away the garment in disgust. He was the only one not dressed for the shoot and he refused to wear what they assigned to him. He sighed. Why did they have to choose that color for him again? It’s bad enough that people associate him with that color already. Proof of this was in the nickname that he got from his idol, Tackey: Yamapi - that is, short for Yamashita Pink.
In addition to this, he was frightfully aware of the stare that Nishikido Ryo was giving him. This wasn’t good. He really should stop complaining, but he really, really hated the color that they gave him. Suddenly he had an idea; maybe he could switch with someone, but that was now nearly impossible as most of them had been photographed. Everyone except him, Shige and Ryo, and like hell he was going to ask for Ryo’s help.
He approached Shige, who was currently engrossed in watching Koyama pose for the camera. “Hey there, Shige!” he called out sweetly.
Shige shook his head and stood firm. He already knew what Tomohisa wanted. “No, Tomohisa, I am not going to switch with you.”
Tomohisa’s face fell. “Awwwww! Why not?”
“Because, I don’t want to.” Shige nodded to the photographer and smiled as he took his place in front of the camera with Koyama. This was the only way he could make sure that he woul’n't be exchanging costumes with Tomohisa. The color pink just didn’t suit his rock star style.
“Ok, Shige, that’s just mean,“ Tomohisa pouted. Now he was really stuck with pink and the furrow in Ryo’s face wasn’t getting any smoother but deeper. He had a choice: either he accepted that he was doomed to wear pink, or fall victim to Ryo’s wrath. He had to be honest with himself and say that he would rather be seen in a pink kimono rather than die a thousand deaths with Ryo’s fury. He gave in and finally dressed up. This seemed to appease Ryo a little and he sighed in relief. Danger averted, at least for the moment.
The shoot finally went underway, and Ryo tried to make his mood better for the camera. But he felt lousy and it showed. Why was he feeling like this anyway? He didn’t need to be like this, especially not in such a beautiful location. But the photographer made the most out of his sullen mood and shot some beautiful sad pictures of Ryo and the boys. It would be a nice idea for a spread, something very thought evoking and emotional.
Tegoshi and Masuda were almost angelic. They did all they could to be the most cooperative NEWS members of the day. It was very unusual, since usually, they were the ones that were always playing around. But today it was Koyama Keiichiro who was having the hardest time trying to keep a straight face. The fact that Yamapi was again in pink was one cause of it, the second reason was that there was a caterpillar climbing up slowly on Kato Shigeaki’s back and the boy didn’t realize it. He knew that Shige hated these things the worst. He avoided Ryo’s eyes that were glaring at him.
“What are you snickering about, Keii-chan?” Shige hissed at his friend. “Boss-chan is looking this way. We’re going to get in trouble because of you!”
“I can’t help it,” Koyama said in between giggles as he doubled over when he saw Tomohisa look at him with a pleading look in his eyes. He didn’t want Ryo to be even more mad than he already is. The photographer had to stop taking pictures because he couldn’t stop laughing and Ryo was more than pissed, he was furious.
“Koyama, you are holding up the shoot!” Ryo said in the calmest voice he could muster. “Why are you giggling like a fan girl on crack?”
At that exact moment, a girly piercing scream was heard from the mouth of Kato Shigeaki. It was one that no one had heard before from the boy. It sounded absolutely absurd and they couldn’t believe that it came from the tall boy. Everyone now stared at Shige, speechless.
“What was that?” Ryo asked Shige as he broke the silence. His patience was being tested to its limit again and he didn’t know how much longer it could last. Not long, he thought, especially since Team Baka decided that they would launch their antics right then and there.
Shige was now flailing in response. There was a caterpillar on his shoulder and no one bothered to tell him. “Get it off! Get it off me!” he begged as he uncharacteristically flailed around Koyama who rolled on the ground in laughter. The rock star was defeated by a caterpillar and to him, it was precious.
Everyone else found it amusing except Ryo, who stopped the flailing boy and took the offending bug off his shoulder and glared. “There, are you better now?” Ryo asked between gritted teeth. He looked at his watch. They just wasted 15 minutes.
“Arigato, Nishikido-aniki!” Shige said gratefully as he impulsively hugged the older boy and then proceeded to go to his best friend who was on the ground and started to kick him repeatedly. “Why didn’t you tell me about the caterpillar?” he demanded. “I hate you!”
“No, you don’t!” Koyama said as he held his hands out to Tegoshi who helped him up. “You love me and you know it! It was just precious to see the look on your face,” Koyama said. “Besides, the whole place is so tense, I was thinking of a change of mood. “ Koyama glanced at Ryo and found that his attempts to change the boy’s mood had failed and instead made him worse.
“Playtime is over, kids,” Ryo growled. “Back to work, all of you! We have Music Station in a couple hours and we’re going to be late!” he yelled. They were really pushing his buttons. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. “Please?”
Shige smacked Koyama one last time before he went back into his assigned space. He had to get back at Koyama somehow, but later. He didn’t want Ryo to kill him.
The shoot finally went off without a hitch and soon they were back on the bus that would transport them from the location to the studio for Music Station. It was as if there was an imaginary line inside the bus. The front of the bus was quiet with an aura of murderous intent that tinged the air. This was where Nishikido Ryo sat brooding silently. He knew the boys must be talking about him but he didn’t care. He was really in a bad mood.
A few rows towards the back, the rest of NEWS sat staring at the angry member. They all talked quietly so as not to disturb Boss-chan’s mood. They all wondered what was going on with Ryo, and why he was crabbier than usual.
“Maybe it’s his period,” Massu suggested in a low voice before Yamapi hit him over the head with the book he was reading. If Ryo heard him, he would surely be dead.
“Baka! He might hear you and you might die an early death,” Tegoshi said glancing over at Ryo and was relieved that the other boy did not even glance back.
“Well, it’s true! He’s acting the way my sister does when she has her period!” Massu said rubbing his head where their leader hit him. “That hurt, Yamapi.”
“I wonder what’s wrong,” Koyama wondered with a pout. “He’s never been this bad before.”
“That’s true,” Yamapi said as he eyed his friend with concern. “I wonder if he’s feeling well.”
“He looks ok,” Shige observed. “Maybe something is bothering him. We could ask.”
“It’s better to leave him that way for now,” Yamapi said, shaking his head. He had to talk to Ryo later. Something was obviously up and he wanted to know. “You guys better behave later, I’ll talk to him.”
The other guys nodded. They were all concerned for the boy, of course. But they all knew that whatever it was, they didn’t want to be the object of Boss-chan’s fury. It was just too scary.
