Ah, nerd holidays. They're the best kind. We choose how to celebrate, not hung up on regional or religious traditions. It's comforting. The camaraderie of people the world over because of a 40-year-old film is magnificent. Fandom is just great.
I feel strange right now. I've never been drunk or high, but I feel oddly at peace despite the country going to hell (AHCA II specifically), so I think this must be what drunk or high feels like.
Last week I tried to get back into sketching. I say that as if I was good at it at some point. 15 years ago I did a lovely self portrait. On a whim I decided to do a Star Wars sketch. I got fancy colored pencils and everything. I need a great deal of practice. The first one was awful. The second was mediocre. I didn't have time to do a third before today because I went to MI.
My trip was nice. Saw old faces (Ash, Abby, & April) and new (Wraith). Ash and I decided to troll Wraith with my accent. I'd go from hardcore Southern to no accent to a soft one. We wanted to see if Wraith would say anything; she didn't until Ash gave up the game to Abby. Wraith was then like "it all makes sense" and "she kept going French and Russian, too". The drive home was a nightmare. I had to take a 40 mile detour (!) because there had been an explosion on the highway.
It's unlikely that I'll be going to Pottercon after all D: I just found this out a few hours ago. But it's better for a friend in dire straits to save money than to spend it on Harry Potter stuff. Still, I was looking forward to it.
