Krispy Kreme- I Hardly Knew Ye!

I found a Krispy Kreme store near to the Japanese Cultural Center! I couldn't believe it!

Ok, lets get to the background....

A few years ago before I left for Japan, I heard about the whole Krispy Kreme Kraze. I am not a big donut fan (unlike the majority of Canadians and Simpson's fans) but I do like one every once in awhile. Needless to say, I was curious as to why there was such a craze for mere 'Donuts'. I mean, isn't Canada the Donut Capital of the world with more donut stores per capita (whatever that means) than any other country in the world?!?!?

So how could some upshot from the US actually produce a more exciting donut? How could they produce something that, like hockey and toques, are so uniquely Canadian?

Who invented the Sprinkle- Was it not a Canadian?

Who invented the Jelly-fill - Was it not a Canadian?

I despaired.
I raged!
I comteplated..

Alas, I bided my time.

My foray into the culture that was Japan did not take away for one instant that which I knew must be done...The tasting of said Krispy Kreme. My trek to NYC, while it did produce a Krispy Kreme location, was a failure due to complicated directions and lack of intelligence(mine).

Which brings me back to my current tale.

I found a Krispy Kreme store near to the Japanese Cultural Center!

I went in... I looked around... I noticed that the price of a Kripsy Kreme donut was .89c each. A little steep by Canadian standards but none-the-less, it was the opportunity to see if once again our American cousins (and I do have some cousins in America though none in the Donut industry) had set the standard for culinary adventure.

My mouth laughed!
My mouth danced!
My mouth drooled...

It was good. It was sweet. It was soft. It was delicious.

Perhaps, one day I will have the courage to sample another (next tuesday before I go to Japanese class). But for now, I must remember the memory of that sweet glazed donut melting in my mouth.

In other words... It was pretty good.

food, weird, faves, japan
