Sin City

There has got to be some kind of trophy for longest spell without updating the LJ. March-August ain't half bad.

School's started, joy of joys, and I'm all moved with new roomies Liz and Brittany. We're partying hard in Bates West. By partying hard I mean watching movies and then falling asleep before 1:00am. We're so cool like that.

Anyways, the first movie review in ages will be the most recent movie I've seen -- wait, scratch that. The secondest most recentest movie.

Whilst Viewing: Ohhhhhhhhhh.

Post Popcorn: I'd heard raves and raves about this movie, and I love half the people in it, otherwise I probably never would have wanted to see it. Comic books are not my thing, even when translated to film. That said, I enjoyed the film for the most part. Of course, I couldn't help but laugh at the most awkward lines, like "She smells the way angels ought to smell." The cinematography, the straight-off-the-page visuals, were awesome. Probably my favorite part of the whole film. Besides Clive Owen being ridiculously hot, I mean (and I love love love his little red Converses). The much talked about violence didn't really bother me, as it usually doesn't bother me. I'm not really sure what that says about me as a person, but there you go.

What I really like about Sin City, though, is that it explains a lot, a lot, about the way the male mind works. Seriously, half an hour into it and I was like, "ohhhhhhh, so that's how they think." The short, staccato sentences, the violence, the rather oversimplified reaction to "girl, girl pretty" is like a textbook. I'm only being half facetious here, in that I know it's an oversimplification for the sake of an art form, but I think it still holds a grain of truth. The other major reaction I have to this movie is Elijah Wood = creepy. Now the Frodo poster that stares at us in our bathroom mirror every day has taken on a whole new dimension, and I'm afraid he's going to eat me.

Overall, it's a great film, well worth seeing, but not one I'm going to be craving a second viewing of.
