So I'm supposed to be doing the 30 in 30 (30 posts in 30 days for the month of June.) I think I've pretty much failed to start with my crazy work schedule and utter mental exhaustion. Nothing seems to fit together right no matter how hard I try to write. I'm hopefully taking the weekend off to relax, see friends, and maybe (just maybe) get some good writing done.
In the mean time, here's some perfume reviews that will be coming as I have a few moments time:
BPAL:
Burial - deep, brooding forest scents, including juniper and patchouli. The scent of upturned cemetery loam mingling with floral offerings to the dead. - A pine, incense, funeral floral that just clings and suffocates. Not for Thellie.
Sacred Whore of Babylon - And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth. An ancient formula that inspires unrepentant decadence, lechery and debauch. - Ooh, a golden cinnamon, rounded with something musky and sweet... there's a floral base, too. I like this a lot. Keeper.
Gomorrah - A gritty, sordid and languid scent: ripe fig, date and currant with black herb - I keep trying to like this one because of the fruit, but I really don't think I do. Sad.
Tarot: Death - Vetiver and cedar shavings on me... not a good combo. Passing on.
Anne Bonny - A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense. - Three hated scents, one loved inspiration... disaster. Just no. NO. NO!
Yemaya - Her ofrenda is a bounty of melons and grapes, strewn with the petals of the flowers of motherhood, draped with sea mosses - Oh, this is lovely. The honeydew melon and grapes are fresh and perfectly ripe with a light spring floral that is barely there and only arriving after dry down. I wouldn't mind finding more of this coming my way.
Lilith - Red wine, myrrh, black musk, and attar of rose. - Again, 4 hate notes, and still I tried it. And I was right. It's not for me.
Blood Rose - Sensual, robust, and silken: voluptuous red rose bursting with lascivious red wine and sultry dragon's blood resin. - Syrupy sweet and rose and the dusty musk note that seems to be Dragon's Blood that is also a bit spicy sour. Not quite right for me, but could be heavenly on the right person.
Agrat-Bat-Mahlat - Amber, cream accord, white honey, apple blossom, skin musk, caramel, and teak. - The first time I tested this, it was a lovely sweet cream, but I just wasn't positive about it. I tried it again and it started as a musky sweet cream (probably sweet from the caramel and honey and apple), but quickly turned into sour milk and wouldn't scrub off. Um... No. Goodbye.
Regan - Regan, from Illyria: A deceptively sweet orchid vanille with a faint trace of stephanotis. - a spicy floral... not quite a me scent, though it is lovely in its own right
Blood Pearl - Lustrous, sanguine, soft and lavish: soft orris, blood musk, and coconut. - eek... quite the combo... and not in a good way. Orris doesn't work on me usually, I don't smell the coconut and the blood musk just isn't my note. bye byes...
Serpent's Kiss - Seething with passion, yet utterly cold-blooded. Dragon's blood, vetivert and spice. - Vetivert is a death note on me. And Dragon's Blood just doesn't work either. We'll pass this on.
Poisoned Apple - A perfect, lovely, gleaming red apple whose sweetness masks a swirl of narcotic opium, oleander, and hemlock. - Sweet candy apple that fades down to dark herbals. Not for me.
Santo Domingo - An exotic, sultry blend of tobacco leaf, bay rum and heady Caribbean blossoms. - It's official, tobacco leaf does NOT work on me. Other than that, lovely.
Nosferatu - desiccated herbs and gritty earth brought to life with a swell of robust and sanguineous red wines. - surprisingly a keeper. earthy, but full of life somehow... I don't think my herbs are dead. lol
Pickled Imp - Cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and pine sap. - Kinda reminds me of eggnog and Christmas... yummy keeper
Singing Moon - Moonlight over grave grass, meadowsweet, marsh hellebore, rock sea-lavender, Irish Lady's-tresses, melancholy thistle, and wood bitter-vetch, with the scent of autumn fires in the distance, sprayed by wind howling over the Atlantic. - Very herbal and outdoorsy... I love this. I want more. It almost haunts me.
Snowflakes - Mint and white flowers - light and cold... unsure. Not a keeper, but not bad.
Tarot: The World - Earthy and dark, spicy, herbal, incense and musk... just too much dark danky scents to fit to me. Passing along.
Storm Moon 05 - A raging, electric and wet scent: slashing rain notes, rolling thunder, and sharp, cold winds layered by a breath of softly wafting lunar incense, a hint of Luna's blooms, and the brittle herbs of winter. - A surprisingly complimentary aquatic. I will be holding on to this. I like how the light florals were so crisp and haunting.
Possets:
Sex with Spirits - dark honey, rosemary, smokey note - Oh, this is fabulous. I find it quite undefinable and had to e-mail the creator to figure out the notes. Keeper. Might look for more.
Madame X - Wicked, sinful, hedonistic, and irresistable. You may not have the heart to play the femme fatale, but you can at least smell the part. It's musky, creamy, enticing, perfumy, slightly foody, but very skin-like. - Sweet creamy musky, oh yeah, I get this one... I wanna eat my wrists. Totally holding on, may look for more...
Silver Violets - Refreshing violet scent, sister to my favorite Silver Carnations.
Snowflake Martini - Peppermint top note - Martini with peppermint, just like its name. Refreshing, not bad, just not me.
Lamp Black - Surprisingly something of a spiced tea, maybe a bit of bergamot.
Girls Love Limeys - honey and lime - Not a good mix of citrus and honey on me. Let's pass it on.
Heaven and Earth Essentials:
Shame - White Musk FO, Leather FO, Nutmeg EO, Cardamom EO, Frankincense EO, Myrrh EO and Black Patchouli EO - Very dark and brooding. I'm not a dark girl and I don't do well with the blacks, leather, frankincense, myrrh and patchouli, though I think cardamom is the scent I couldn't place. Frimping it out.
Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie:
Winter Snow Blossom - Dogwood Blossoms, Lychee, Ice Notes - This was lovely light and fruity floral, crisp and cold and I enjoyed it muchly.
Oldhche Shamhna - Fresh-buttered Popcorn, Milk Chocolate, Caramel and more! - Kinda yummy... but not overly me.
Arcana:
Apricot Layering Note - Pure creamy apricot. Total keeper.
Conjure Oils:
Godself -Sacred frankincense, Ethiopian myrrh, orange blossom, jasmine and white rose. Let the Sacred Dove fly free. - Eww eww eww. Frankincense, myrr and jasmine are death notes on me... Pass this one along fast!
Ochosi - A fragrance filled with Ochossi's favorites: Almonds, a splash of Anisette, ripe pears and the stillness of the forest before the sun rises. - fruity soap, like the cherry almond soap... reminds me of my grandmother.
Violette Market:
Miss Lily Mae - Red orchard apple dipped in cinnamon-infused caramel and rolled in hazelnuts. - Sweet fruity and nutty, kind of warm, but not cinnamon that I can find. Will probably frimp away.
