Summary: Sungmin met Kyuhyun at preschool, and now their friendship has brought two old enemies from school together. Can Leeteuk and KangIn patch things up? And will KangIn ever be able to be the proper father for Kyuhun?

“I want to see Kyuhyun again, at least. I’d say I want to be his mother again, but I don’t think he’d be happy with that.” Soo said. Leeteuk glared at the phone, unable to hear what Soo says, but when KangIn’s face turns into a smile and his voice trembles slightly; he can’t tell if it’s from fear or happiness, Leeteuk can’t help but feel like that girl should never have called.

“W-what are you saying? Of course he’d be happy to see you again. I’d be happy to see you again….” KangIn added, making Leeteuk scowl in disappointment. “Kyuhyun’s asleep right now, but maybe we should catch up a little tonight.” Leeteuk wanted to tear his hair out and scream. The other line was hesitant at first.

“Sure, why not? Where would you like to meet?”

“Remember the café we went to daily when we were in college together? I think it should still be open at this time of night.” KangIn suggests. Leeteuk just held his hands to his ears, not bothering to torture himself listening to the rest. Finally, KangIn hangs up his cell phone and heads to the door, his jacket in hand.

“You aren’t seriously trying to meet her at this hour are you? It’s after midnight!” Leeteuk tried to reason. KangIn refused to listen and just exited the house without a goodbye to him. Leeteuk soon caught himself hiccupping and starting to cry. He grabbed the closest cushion he found; not caring it was leather like the rest of the couch, and buried his face in it. Softly crying along with the melancholy silence.

==Han Cafe==

KangIn swiped Leeteuk’s keys as he left the door and drove the car to the nearest parking lot close to the café. Once he reached the door to old and welcoming place, he looked through the glass windows in confusion. What happened to all the furniture in there? Why weren’t there any coffee machines? He looked to his left for the sign, but saw a different sign : Han Café has been closed down due to failing business.

“I’m guessing you haven’t been here recently enough to find out about this.” A voice said behind him. KangIn whipped his head and thought he’d seen a ghost. Soo stood with one hand on the strap of her Gucci purse, she wore a fleece over coat on top of a short satin and crocodile boots. Her hair definitely had more volume to it, he could tell the way it fell over her shoulders differently. She looked healthy, and that brought a smile to KangIn’s face, but he couldn’t hide it’s faltering when he noticed a ring on her finger where the one they shared used to be.

“You’ve remarried?” he asks aloud, not wanting it to sink in. She nods a bit shamed, but smiled sympathetically at him.

“I moved on with my life, and married into money, and I thought, now that I have a good lifestyle, maybe Kyuhyun would want to be with me again.”

“You mean shared custody?” he noticed he smile disappeared fully this time and didn’t reappear.

“No, I mean full custody,” KangIn’s eyes went big in shock, “ You can visit him on weekends, Yougnwoon! But I just don’t think losing your jobs over and over again is a good thing for Kyuhyun! What if he gets embarrassed when people asks him about his father’s job?”

“And you never thought he got embarrassed when people asked him why his mother wouldn’t show up for the parent meetings? Or maybe why when the kids had pageants, only his father was there? Or maybe every mother’s day, when he comes up to me and asks if it was his fault you left!” KangIn felt his blood boiling again. “For years, Soo we wanted you back, not just him, but I did too! The day you left I was so ready to try and make things up to you! I was going to apologize for the hell I put you through. Ever since you left, Kyuhyun’s had trouble socializing. First few weeks, he refused to talk, when he did talk, he’d just cry asking where you were, then he would only talk to me. Now he only has one friend when kids his age should have at least three, and Sungmin seems to be the only person he trust! I may have hurt you, but you hurt both of us, Soo. And you think you aren’t the only who moved on? I have a damn good job now, thank you very much!”

“Have you remarried? Kyuhyun needs someone besides you.” Soo bit back, catching KangIn off guard.

“Not yet, but sooner or later. There’s already someone else who likes me, and they aren’t the kind of person to leave their kid behind.” He snapped in defense. Soo huffed and ran a hand through her styled hair.

“Well, either way, this is for Kyuhyun to decide isn’t it? He’s the one most affected by the choice.” She said bitterly. As she waved a curt goodbye, she left KangIn alone, in sour remorse he thought she would still be the same from when he first met her.

“Soo, what happened to you?” he whispered ad let his voice get carried in the wind.

==Leeteuk’s House==

Leeteuk came back down from the upstairs bathroom when he finished crying and drying his face. After looking into the mirror around a dozen times, he finally deemed his face reasonable enough presentable for when KangIn comes home with his probably cheery news about how his lovely ex-wife would be coming back into his life and making things right again!~ And….leaving Teukie alone, with a kid and longing to be with Kang In when he was SO CLOSE! He was a centimeter away from him! He had him in his grasp! And that stupid phone let KangIn slip away! He was just about to kick the wall when he heard the front door open.

“Hyung?” he heard call quietly. Leeteuk went down the last step and round the stairwell to be greeted by a tired looking dongsaeng. Ok…..BACKSPACE, this is not what he expected.

“Youngwoon-sshi? Are you alright you’re back earlier than I thought you would be--!” He was cut off when KangIn’s body weight fell onto of him. “Youngwoon-sshi?!” Leeteuk repeated with a bit more panic in his voice.

“She’s remarried. She moved on and now she wants full custody of Kyuhyun. FULL CUSTODY.” He moaned in response. “I don’t want to let him go, I finally found a good life for him, a job I know I can’t lose, I can’t let him go…” he whispered, gripping Leeteuk’s shoulders desperately. Leeteuk managed to remove an arm from underneath the heavy weight and awkwardly patted KangIn’s back.

“Yougnwoon, could you, by any chance, get off? I can’t feel my legs.” He could feel the surprised etched in KangIn’s face as he scrambles off of Leeteuk.

“I-I’m sorry, hyung! I didn’t mean to--! It’sjustallthesuddenstressandImeanwemighthavetogototrialtotalkaboutKyuhyun’scustodyandIdon’tevenhaveawifeoranythinglikethat! Thecourtwillthinkshe’llbethebetterparentsinceherlifeismorecompletebutI’mtryinghardtocreateabetterlifeforhim,Ireallyam!I-“

“Youngwoon-sshi!” Leeteuk hissed. He clamped KangIn’s mouth with his hand and looked at him like an impatient child. “The world isn’t going to end in the next second and God isn’t trying to screw you over. So shut up, and breathe!”

When he was sure that KangIn calmed down, Leeteuk removed his hand and dragged KangIn to the couch by his hand.

“Sit.” He ordered. KangIn stared at him skeptically, but when he quickly found that Leeteuk was glaring at him, he sat down promptly. “First, we now know she is a idiot to think that she should have Kyuhyun back when you’ve stuck with him through is life longer than she has. She abandoned him, so what makes you think the court would even FATHOM of letting her take care of Kyuhyun. She had her chance, this is yours. Don’t mess up like she did.” Leeteuk assured. KangIn let it sink in, and pondered.

“So your saying is that I have nothing to worry about?”

“No, I’m saying the only thing you have to worry is about is being there for Kyuhyun.” Leeteuk corrected. He turned to gather up some blankets because knew KangIn would want to sleep on the couch (Even though the guest should be the ones sleeping on the beds)

“Jungsu-hyung?”

“Yes?” Leeteuk turned back around to face KangIn.

“How’d you….you know…have Sungmin? You never would hug a girl so much as have sex with one….” KangIn asked with caution. Leeteuk smiled sadly and tossed a blanket to KangIn. KangIn caught it with ease and arranged it so he and Leeteuk could fit under it.

“Sungmin isn’t my biological child, he’s adopted. His parents died in a car accident and he didn’t have any known living relatives. I used to volunteer at charities for orphanages so that how I first met him. He was such a quiet kid when I was there, he had the most beautiful eyes a child could have, but they lost the shine and he never smiled. I don’t know why but after I first saw him, I just wanted him to smile again. So on a whim, I decided to adopt him. He was really reluctant when he realized he was going to have a new family. ‘I already have a Mom and Dad’ he’d protest repeatedly. But I didn’t give up, I stuck with him 24/7. Sometimes I’d be with him so much that he’d yell at me to leave. Though after I gave him the stuffed rabbit on the first birthday he celebrated with me; I think that was the thing that changed everything, he’d start following ME around. At first he’d just wobbled behind me and hide his face in the rabbit if I looked at him.” Leeteuk laughed to himself, “He was probably thinking of the phrase ‘If I can’t see you, you can’t see me’, the summer before kindergarten was when I finally saw him smile and when he started talking a lot more. Of course, the final result is the Sungmin you know now.” KangIn nodded, it made sense. Leeteuk shrugged off the topic and rested his head on KangIn’s chest. “Just worry about it tomorrow…” he mumbled before he finally fell asleep for the night. KangIn gazed at Leeteuk’s face, tempted to brush the stray strands of hair that had fallen onto his face, but decided against it.

“UMMA!!!!” Sungmin shrieked in front of Leeteuk’s face. Leeteuk rubbed his bleary eyes and winced when he saw nothing but light.

“What?” he drawled lethargically. He could feel Sungmin violently shaking him awake, which never really worked until he became irritated. But, before he could do anything else, he felt Sungmin’s weight miraculously being lifted off of Leeteuk and he sat up, confused. Panning the room, Leeteuk saw KangIn was standing over him, holding a squirming Sungmin in his large hands.

“Youngwoon-sshi, you can put him down you know. He’s not going to shake me to death.” He chuckled. KangIn put him down and helped Leeteuk to his feet. Though, the moment Leeteuk sat up straight, KangIn pecked a quick kiss on his cheek. Leeteuk’s jaw went slack. “You…a…did…you?..K-k-k-k-k-k-“

“Kiss you?” Unless the action is called something differently now, then yes.” He spoke somnolently just to tease the other. Leeteuk inspected the room to see if his son actually saw this, and breathe a relaxed sigh. KangIn dove again to kiss his elder on the lips this time, but was blocked by Leeteuk placing two fingers on them.

“And this sudden decision is brought on by, what?” he asked with reluctance.

“When I was arguing with Soo. I thought I should at the very least give you a chance.” Leeteuk knew he was blushing several different shades as numerous emotions overwhelmed him.

“Umma!” they heard Sungmin shriek again, he sighed and left KangIn by himself to inquire what happened to the child. He opened the door and saw the room in disarray. Near the corner was Sungmin digging through an assortment of pink clothes and opposite was Kyuhyun leaning against the window sill, horror-struck by the monochromatic fabrics. It was almost like he was allergic to the color.

“Sungminnie-ah, what’s the matter?” Leeteuk called from the door. Not stopping his quest of…whatever he was doing.

“Umma! Do you know where there are any clothes for Kyu kyu?”

“Sungmin, he can wear what he has until they go back home, it’s Saturday.” Leeteuk said lethargically. Sungmin stopped what he was doing and then hung his head in embarrassment.

“Oh….”

“Here, I’ll help clean this up. I don’t Kyuhyun can move with all this pink around his feet.” The said boy shuffled his feet and squeezed himself farther into the corner.

“I don’t hate pink, but I can walked when every piece of clothing reminds me of hyung, I’m afraid I might step on him.”

“Right.” Leeteuk laughed.
