Summary: What would happen if Siwon died and left Yesung alone forever?

A/N: Based off of the song ‘If I Die Young’ by The Band Perry, one of my new fave songs. Since it’s a story based off of a song, it’s a little hard to come up with a summary I’m satisfied with but w/e. Enjoy anyway.

If I die young bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

Siwon felt the sudden pain at his chest and screamed. He tried to get focus so he could continue his shots at the enemy, but the other yells and cries of pain and the red that heavily blocked his eyesight made his lack of concentration worse. He collapsed down to his knees, wiping his the blood away and got a better look at the scene before him. His friends, his comrades, getting the shit beaten out of them by the other gang. He looked to his side and swore his heart could have stopped right then. They’re leader of the gang, Jungsu, lay next to him, face covering the asphalt and his head bloodied from a blow to the head. Before Siwon could do anything else, a metal object hit the bottom of his head; or really, hit his neck, causing it to snap and put him down forever. The assailant, hesitated for a second after he hit Siwon, then rolled Siwon’s body on his back, noticing the verses of a love song tattooed across his abdomen and the stained satin shirt ripped just above his heart from a BB gunshot. Quickly; realizing he had just killed someone, he threw down his pipe and signaled for the group to flee.

Lord make me a rainbow I’ll shine down on my mother
She knows I’m safe with you and she stands under my colors
Oh and life ain’t always what you think it ought to be
No it ain’t even grey but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life
Well I’ve had just enough time

Yesung looked out to window in awe at the brilliantly colored rainbow. He couldn’t wait for his brother to come back and see this. He knew Siwon had been troubled recently, but the younger boy always loved rainbows, every time they saw on he’d always point out that they were a sign from God as a favor to someone who had died and wanted their loved ones safe.

“Camera, camera, where’s the camera?” Yesung muttered to himself, he tore apart his room looking for the camera Siwon got him for his birthday when he was eleven. After flipping over his mattress and emptying out of his dresser drawers, he found it. Hurriedly, Yesung ran back to his window and snapped several pictures for his little brother to see when he got back.

If I die young bury me satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I have just enough time

Yesung dropped his camera in surprise when his mother came barging in through the door screaming at him. He tried to back away as she stepped dangerously closer and sobbed between her yells. Finally, Yesung was pretty sure he understood a little better when he caught the words “…Siwon wouldn’t have been like this if it wasn’t for you! You and that stupid gang were the only flaws in his life! You always were the one bringing the trouble in this home!” Finally, mustering his poker face and as much courage he could, he asked for a clarification on what she meant. It was normal for her to rant about things like this, but she normally just said them flatly, not tearing apart her lungs like this.

“Siwon is dead, you little bitch!” she shrieked before slapping him hard across the face and slamming the door shut to become of muddle of sobs in peace. Yesung held his cheek in shock; his brother was dead? He quickly looked at the rainbow he had taken a photo of not too long ago and finally understood why the rainbow was so bright. It was meant for them from Siwon.

“Siwon, you stupid idiot.” Yesung mumbled as tears fell down his cheeks.

And I’ll be wearing white
When I come into your kingdom
I’m as green as the ring on my little cold finger
Well I’ve never known the lovin of man
But it sure felt nice when he was holdin my hand
There’s a boy here in town
Who says he’ll love me forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed
By a sharp knife of a short life
Well I’ve had just enough time

Yesung sat in the room where the funeral was going to take place. The only ones in the room were just him and his brother’s body. Yesung kicked himself a little for thinking Siwon had never looked better in white than now, he carefully caressed Siwon’s neat hair and ran his hand down the side to the emerald ring Siwon had on his little finger from a claw machine he won in. Yesung had joked about how girly it would be to wear a ring, but Siwon always wore it and never took it off.

Yesung sat down on a chair in front of the casket and held Siwon’s hand in between his and pressed his forehead against the hand.

“You said you’d always be there for me, but where are you now?” the little brother who always helped him when mom lashed out, when he’d be beaten up by classmates, even just something as little as homework. Siwon was always there somehow to help.

So put on your best boys, and I’ll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts oh no I’ll sell em for a dollar
They’re worth so much more after I’m a goner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words that I’ve been singin’
Its funny when you’re dead how people start listenin’

If I die young burry me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The ballad of a dove
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears and keep them in your pocket
Save em for a time when you’re really gonna need em.
The sharp knife of a short life
Well I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best boys, and I’ll wear my pearls

Yesung bolted right up in his bed. Sweat beaded on his skin and tears staining his face. Attempting to catch his breath, he looked a around the room and ran a hand through his disheveled hair. The room was pitch black, save for the moonlight that streamed into his room. Was it just a nightmare? He ran over to his brother’s room and flung open the door, startling his brother awake. Yesung sighed with relief that it was just a nightmare and flung himself at his brother.

“Hyung?” Siwon asked, puzzled. Yesung held Siwon’s head in between his hands and kissed the top of his head before hugging the air out of the younger’s lungs.

“My god, Siwon. I had the worst nightmare….” He started before pulling away and looking Siwon straight into the eyes. “You and that gang of yours has been disbanded right? No more fights, right?”

“We dropped that act last month, Hyung, what’s gotten into you?”

“I had a nightmare you died from a gang fight.” Yesung murmured mostly to himself, but Siwon still heard it.

“Hyung, I’m not going anywhere.”

“If I had a penny for every time I’ve heard that from you, I’d be rich.” Yesung smirked at Siwon.

“Well, whatever, now get off of me, you’re all sweaty and gross.” Siwon complained as he shoved his older brother off of his bed. Yesung just laughed and closed the door, after mimicking a salute that he’s going to follow his orders. Siwon shook his head to himself and pulled the covers back over himself.

“Crazy hyung.”
