CONvergence 2011 and more garden photos

So I didn't take a picture of the finished shirt, but it turned out well, if rather large. It went well with a vest he had from an old masquerade entry.

CONverngence!

It was a steampunk-heavy time at the con. I loved it, although it's obviously not everyone's cup of tea:

:P

I watched the masquerade on TV in our room. There were a number of great entries, but these guys were the absolute coolest:

That is the best non-dalek dalek costume and the best non-TARDIS TARDIS costume I have ever seen. I'm so glad they won best in show. (The right side of the photo is a little confusing because there's a woman in a blue-toned Corpse Bride costume standing behind the TARDIS guy - the pale blue is her dress, not some kind of cape that he's wearing.)

I also liked the steampunk couple with the "perfect cocktail" - they were very well rehearsed and were perfectly timed to the speaking and sound effects in their soundtrack. The pink samurai girl and the black-and-white entry also had really good presentations.

Fireworks!

After I got back Monday evening, I came up to the office to check on Wizard and then headed for the grocery store. From the freeway, I could see all of the neighborhood fireworks displays starting. It was fun to try and identify which park each one was being set off from. I saw my neighborhood's grand finale from the grocery store parking lot.

Garden!

The Flowering Vine That Refuses to Cling to Anything has been blooming big purple blossoms the last couple of weeks. It's in an area of dappled shade and it's been so sunny lately that I haven't been able to get a good picture of any of the blooms. The columbine came and went a few weeks ago, around the same time as the pink tulips. Last year they got really leafy but didn't seem to bloom. This year, they bloomed without getting very leafy and now the leaves are starting to come in.
