Life!

And then the frost killed these particular blossoms, but oh well, there are more on the way.

It's nice to know the bulbs I planted last fall are actually doing something. When I was in California, there were daffodils blooming everywhere and I've been jealous ever since waiting for spring to arrive here.

The weather has been fluctuating wildly. After the heat on Sunday, it cooled down but was still pleasant for the first half of the week. It was particularly nice when I was out in the field on Wednesday. Then things got icky and fieldwork on Friday* involved bitter wind and then a thunderstorm on the way home.

Then today it was snowing.

Well, it looked more like sleet to me but whatever it was, it was unpleasant.

Then there was the fog last Saturday, before the Day of Heat. It was just fog, with no overcast sky above, so it was actually really bright out. I don't think it extended very far inland, either, so looking to the west in the afternoon presented a blurry, back-lit tableau.
