We're having a thaw, and it's remarkable how everything as become Instantly Ugly. The big snowfall was pretty dry and fluffy, and then we had a few rounds of flurries after that, all of which helped coat the landscape in pure, wintry white. It only took a little melting to expose all kinds of dirt and crud: stuff scraped up by the snowplows; bare, muddy grass in places where people cleared a path across a lawn; and even more detached roof shingles in the front yard.
It froze up this evening while I was running errands. Driving was no problem, but walking required special attention because every place that meltwater had oozed across the sidewalk had turned into a skating rink.
