Here, look at this bloody, deformed dog

Does anyone else notice the trend these days of posting pictures of maimed, tortured, bloody, injured animals on Facebook? Supposedly these posts are to raise awareness about animal abuse, but all they do is freak me out when I'm innocently browsing Facebook and suddenly there's a picture of a bloody tortured animal in my face. Ostensibly the ( Read more... )

I just fear the people who need to learn to use them most are also the ones who care about others' feelings least.Trufax, I think. This makes me lose hope for humanity on a daily basis. I know I post things that can be triggering without a trigger warning sometimes too, but I expect it more on Facebook than when I'm just wandering around Facebook and suddenly BOOM BUGS ALL OVER THIS TORTURED PUPPY ( ... )

I feel ya, I've posted about this on my LJ before in an 'open letter' to my friend from high school who constantly posts things like thiat...ugh, I hate it...and even the 'adopt this pet' is frustrating since she's in NYC and a good portion of her friends *aren't* (which makes you feel even more helpless because you couldn't even help if you wanted to).

I'm glad it's not just me. I have lots of friends who do it, and it's like, "d00d, I DID adopt a pet, that's where I got BOTH my cats, but SRSLY how many people adopt a cat or dog because they see your guilt-tripping post on Facebook?" Also there are these "This animal has less than sixteen hours to live unless YOU HELP" posts that feature animals due to be destroyed the next day, and those always make me feel worse!

Gawd, yes...I can't even look, I don't want to see a kitty that's going to die tomorrow, what can I do? Unfortunately nothing, except feel like crap...thanks, 'friend'...right? Oy!

I'm glad it stopped for you. I just blocked the two worst offenders from my status feed so I hope it stops after today. I feel a bit better today but I'm still feeling shivery and a little panicky but nothing like yesterday.

ooops. i do the whole adopt an animal share story. (forgive graMmer of this comment i'm on my phone.) i can see where it would bother you. i can look for a way to streamline who has to see those shares and posts of mine, though. i dont want to lose you. :(

I appreciate it. I guess I don't mind the adopt a pet thing as much as I do the "hey this animal is horribly disfigured, let's all look at a bunch of huge pictures of it!" But even the beginning of the movie "Oliver and Company" makes me cry when Oliver is all alone in the street and it's raining and he's cold and wants someone to love him. I feel really bad for those poor animals who don't have anyone to love them! And then I can't adopt them, so it makes me feel worse. :(
