Soulwax / 2 Many DJs @ The Mod Club

* Best DJ performance ever IMO *

A four-piece from Belgium who performed live dance remixes of their rock songs. So the singer and his brother were using modular electronic gear instead of guitars, alongside their bandmates playing bass and drums. They played for over an hour with loads of charisma, bursting into a couple of jam sessions where they actually sampled oldschool rave tracks like James Brown is Dead and Frequency by Altern8! That was unexpected.

But then the DJ performance. Oh my God. This is the only time I cried during a DJ set. Twice even.

After a brief intermission the Dewaele brothers came on for another 90 minutes or so. Nothing was off limits, and they didn't play more than 2 or 3 minutes of each track, unless they were looping it for dramatic effect. It went a little something like this...

Lee Perry - Chase the Devil
The Prodigy - Out of Space
Fischerspooner - Emerge
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction
Tiga - Pleasure from the Bass
Technotronic - Pump Up the Jam
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker - Run Jeremy mix
LCD Sound System - Disco Infiltrator
Afrika Bambaata - Planet Rock (accapella)
Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night
Playgroup - Make It Happen
Ladytron - Seventeen
Blur - Girls and Boys
Soulwax - NY Excuse (nite version)
Arcade Fire - Rebellion
New Order - Blue Monday
Blackstrobe - Italian Fireflies
Miss Kittin - Silver Screen Shower Scene
Cut Copy - Going Nowhere
Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness
Chemical Brothers - Galaxy Bounce
Adult - Hand to Phone - Carl Craig mix
Primal Scream - Rocks
Tiga - Move My Body
Thomas Andersson - Washing Up
