By midday Wednesday they were saying Hurricane Irene was going to hit NY and New England.  So I went out and topped off my gas tank (no lines, no price gouging), and then went to Ocean State Job Lot and bought a whole bunch of batteries.

Okay, a fairly major earthquake for east coast standards hit at 1:51PM EDT, centered just southwest of Washington DC, and felt as far south as the Carolinas, and as far north as Buffalo NY, and Boston MA (and Headline News is just now saying that reports are coming in from Canada).
