Random amusing thought - since English is technically my second language, it took awhile (?) to build up things like vocabulary and grammar. Like everyone else, I was basically stumbling around figuring out how to use words and sentences, punctuation, paragraphs, etc, to just try and communicate up through high school. I kind of wince with sympathy now at my GSIs in college, because then they had to get it through my head to improve upon the content of what I'm writing. Trying to get my quality up, so to speak.
And then after I started working, and especially now in this tech oriented, time-strapped world, my boss and my own experiences taught me another valuable writing lesson - in addition to the quality, there's the matter of quantity. Too long didn't read even has it's own abbreviation, and even now I will stop mid-email and think, "This is getting too long, people aren't going to even bother reading it."
Which totally does not explain how I'm staring at a file topping 5k words. WTF, this was supposed to be a short thing!
In other news, Taiwan trip will be three weeks in November. We're doing a side-tour to Japan as well, taking the train and hitting up hot spring spots. That part is still technically up in the air since the tour is short of the minimum required to run, but the agent said to give it until the end of August. I have it in mind because my mom's birthday is coming up, so in addition to talking about the trip, I can also talk about her birthday.
I need to book the tickets soon. It's a little amusing that I'm actually not that torn up about spending the money, probably because I'm used to doing this fairly regularly, but I AM happy that I now have a credit card that will actually let me earn cash rewards/back on this semi-frequent ultra large (for me) expenditure.
I like to contemplate in the quiet of my mind: spend $300+ on...? Answers are - a Roomba (to clean for me!), a PS3 (cuz I need a blueray player at some point), or...say, sushi dinners. Or clothes, or random comics on my Amazon wishlist. It's fun to think about, most likely because it's never gonna happen. :P
BTW, forgot to mention, I got a tablet about...a bit over 3 months ago. It's a Nexus 7, absolutely gorgeous, and the resolution is amazing. I can just look at it all day. I also got a keyboard to go with it, but I think I'll have to try and use it more often to see if it's actually a viable replacement for a laptop - not for the long term, but for my overseas trip. The trusty Thinkpad is old and tired, and the battery is dying so it's less optimal to lug it around if it needs an outlet at all times. But the tablet bluetooth keyboard is TINY - I mean, I don't think my hands are large or anything but I've hit so many wrong keys. Probably doesn't help that I'm also more used to an ergonomic keyboard at this point, huh?
Ok, time for bed.@_@
