war, friendship, life, death

May 04, 2008 03:32

This is an an unorthodox addition to past ponderings on the listed subject. It's also a little current events-y.

Jacko: OH!!
Jacko: Did I tell you what Assistant Manager trainee Viola told me about when she was in Afganistan as "Military Support"?

Drew: ?

Jacko: I asked her, "Why is Canada even IN Afganistan?"
Jacko: "...I know what the media says and what the politicians say, but what are we actually DOing over there?"
Jacko: She said that Canada is building schools and orphanages and trying to maintain the peace like well armed police and helping rebuild things like that.
Jacko: Which I think I completely support.
Jacko: She told me something that she finished by saying, "I'm getting all shaky just thinking about it."

Drew: o.o

Jacko: She was across the street from an orphanage the Canadian military set up.
Jacko: It was bombed by the Taliban before her eyes. Destroyed in seconds.
Jacko: She said,

"400 children died that day."

Jacko: I'm in awe of war.

Drew: dang...
Drew: war makes no sense...

Jacko: I am shocked by the uninhibited callousness people can have for each other. Their malice.
Jacko: I thought today
Jacko: while I was making and portioning and cleaning up everything gravy at work
Jacko: If you don't know why you're living, then you're just living in fear.
Jacko: Living because you're afraid to die and see what that's like, if it's like anything.
Jacko: Just living for the sake of living. What is it's purpose?
Jacko: I think it's more or less meaningless if you don't know why you're here.
Jacko: ...if you don't give yourself a reason to be.
Jacko: I think that if you don't know what you're living for, you'll be afraid to die for anything.

Drew: hmmm
Drew: You should write these thoughts out.

Jacko: Hanging out with some friends-of-friends and not-so-close friends and Shima and whatnot was so absolutely wonderful and refreshing tonight. It was exhilirating.
Jacko: Nobody was judging each other or trying too hard to impress one another.
Jacko: I was the oldest one there, but only by a month or so.

Aaaand cut. I wish some nights could last forever.
