Since night had fallen and the monsters had come out, Mello had been spending the majority of his time in the study. This, unsurprisingly, had led him to grow unspeakably bored. The room was small, and there were really only so many times one could explore it before it all became tediously familiar.
With the monsters outside, though, there was hardly anywhere else he could afford to go. Not while he was in this condition. He'd tried to sleep just to pass time, though he almost regretted this decision. Sleeping had become a chore. The very presence of the creatures outside was unsettling, and he was quick to become restless; shifting his position, however, was painful, and he found himself unable to sleep for more than short intervals at a time.
He had developed a strong impulse to try drinking from the bottles in the desk drawer, however, the more rational part of himself had been winning out so far. More than anything, he needed all of his strength right now. He needed to recover. He couldn't afford to risk drinking poison.
And since the study was apparently just one of two rooms that had been spared from the night's infestation of... things, there had been people in the room almost constantly. He wasn't entirely sure why, but when he opened the drawer next, he wanted to do so in secrecy.
He'd eventually taken to reading the room's books to keep himself occupied. He hardly had enough light to read, nor was he particularly fond of the book he had chosen, but it was at least somewhat entertaining, and certainly better than anything else the study had to offer.
