First off,
CASA LOMA RENAISSANCE FAIRE!
My friend
lilyknotwisemd and me in Tudor peasant gear.
The ren faire was a good bit of fun. It was just a small one in the Casa Loma gardens, but it was the perfect size for me. It was a beautiful day, and Casa Loma is so gorgeous. There were venders and a magician/fire eater, and a sword tournament, and a troupe of actors re-enacting the court of Henry VIII who were quite good.
A very pretty hawk.
One of the actors, and the best dressed one by far.
A bunch of the actors. The costume weren't great, but for a ren faire they did the trick.
I also have a few sewing updates. I got the trim on my polonaise neckline, and have started in on the sleeves.
I think that should be done pretty darn soon.
Also, I got to work on the vest for
cws_eat_cws's Eight costume.
I decided to make life more difficult for myself by using a polyester chiffon layered over some equally cheap polyester satin. To manage the sewing I basically starched everything until it had the texture of heavy paper, sewing it together, and then washed most of it out. Worked out pretty well.
The hardest part was adding the pockets. Since Eight wears a pocket watch, I knew I needed a functional pocket, rather than just a decorative one. So, I decided to cheat. :-D
I cut a slit in the fabric, made a little pouch out of some scrap, and then whip-stitched the pouch into the slit. I then made the pocket welt and sewed it over top, covering the slit. It look good, and is perfectly functional. Hooray for cheating!
Next up, lining the coat!
