I had to whip-stitch the lining in my polonaise, so what better way than with some BBC radio dramas! Torchwood had three short radio dramas that aired over the past three days, and all were a real treat. Same old Torchwood fun, but minus a huge pile of angst. :-D
Asylum:
This one and third were my favourite. I loved getting to see lots of PC Andy. It was nice that the radio series helped to integrate Andy and Rhys into Torchwood more, since we know they're going to both be major characters in the mini-series. And PC Andy was so cute with the teenager! I also liked her slang, it well-done and didn't feel forced. It was also a nice piece about how not everything that falls through the rift is hell-bent on killing everyone.
Golden Age:
As a huge fan of the 1920s, this one was a fun romp. The Duchess made a great villain, very crazy and charming at the same time. I also loved all the upper-class British people at the club, and how they complimented Ianto's style. :-D This one definitely felt like an episode of Torchwood done Doctor Who style - more action and less angst.
Dead Line:
Probably my favourite, for two major reasons.
a) Team Rhys and Gwen was the CUTEST THING EVER. They should become an awesome crime-fighting married couple. :-D And given the previews of the mini-series, they probably are. Again, this was nice set-up for Rhys being more involved in Torchwood.
b) OMG IANTO'S MONOLOGUE. Just when I thought thy were going to have any slashiness in the radio dramas (and fair enough, it is daytime BBC radio) they have this beautiful piece. Oh GDL, you are amazing. Also, I liked that Ianto's speech wasn't all 'omg, we're so true love forever'. It was 'I know I am going to loose you some day and our relationship was really doomed from the get-go, but I'm just not ready to loose you yet.' Awwww! And Jack's little response at the end was fabulous. I think this is what I love about Jack and Ianto's relationship. It's all under-stated and under the surface, so you have to go looking for it. But this was beautiful.
Anyway, the radio dramas did their job of getting me good and excited for the new season. PC Andy! Rhys! Ianto's family! Mr. Frobisher! It's gonna be good, people.
July 6th. Be there.
