I've been talking a lot about not getting a job and doing stand-up lately so I figure you guys are probably getting pretty bored of that stuff. So instead here is a story about something that happened to me last night.
I was at a pub sitting at a table with my friend. The pub was pretty busy. My friend saw another friend of his so went over to talk to him. About a minute later some black guy comes over to my table.
Black Guy: Hey man. Mind if I take this chair?
Me: Someone's sitting there actually.
Black Guy: It doesn't look like someone's sitting here.
Me: Yeah my buddy just went to talk to his friend for a minute.
Black Guy: Really? Where's you're buddy now?
Me: Uhhh... right over there. The guy in the black t-shirt. He'll be back in like a minute.
Black Guy: Yeah, well it looks like he's standing over there... so I'll just take the chair.
Me: Uh, what? No dude, someone's sitting there.
Black Guy: Right, I guess that's how it is!
*He gives a sarcastic smile and turns away. I keep sitting there. About 5 minutes goes by and my friend in the black t-shirt is still talking to his friend. I see some other people I know and they come over and ask if I want to go to a cafe or something and I say sure. But now I feel like a dick because my friend never came back so it seems like I was just being rude and not letting the other guy sit there for no reason. I go over to the black guy who is standing against a wall.*
Me: Hey man. I'm actually heading out now so you can take one of those chairs if you want to sit.
Black Guy: Where's your "buddy" with the "black t-shirt"? (He actually made quotes with his hands)
Me: What the hell? Do you think I made that up? He's right over there.
Black Guy: Whatever. I guess that's just human nature.
When he said that he made some total douche-bag face at me and I made a "pfft whatever" face back at him and walked away.
So I'm pretty sure he was assuming I was racist, which I think is racist on his part, because what the fuck?! "Someone is sitting here," is totally a valid excuse for not letting someone take a chair. What a prick. Most people would have left it at that but he totally pre-judged me as being racist. Either that or he was just an insane douche-bag and them maybe I AM being racist for thinking that he was assuming I was racist? Anyways, it was stupid.
