I buy birdseed, suet, etc. (actually squirrel food, though it's called "bird food") at Wild Birds Unlimited. With my last purchase, they gave me a little bag of birdseed saying that it's a tradition in some countries to sprinkle birdseed on your doorstep on Christmas Day for good luck ( Read more... )

I saw a funny sight last night. There are lots of squirrels around here (which I feed, of course!). A very well-grown "teenage" squirrel was trying to nurse off his mom, and he was almost as big as she was! She kept positioning herself so he couldn't get to her, then she cuffed him - "get your own walnuts, buster! You're a big boy now!"

UC Davis to give birth control to its squirrels

Apparently, seven years ago, they had no skwirlz; today they have hundreds! So they are experimenting with birth control for Nutsy's minions. No word on whether the minions have terrorized students into handing over walnuts or anything.

Squirrel gorges self, gets trapped in feeder

First of all, there is NO SUCH THING as a squirrel-proof feeder. Lord Nutsy is powerful, and his minions will conquer. But it was funny to read about this particular minion committing the Sin of Gluttony and being unable to squeeze out of the feeder!
