Walking with a couple of other people...

I went for a walk yesterday.  It was a part of the annual Perth City to Surf Fun Run.  There were several categories - marathon, half marathon, 11km wheelchair, 12km run/walk and the 4km run/walk.

The total number of participants over all categories was 40,000!  That's a lot of people!

I joined the 4km Walk, along with around 9,000 other people of all ages.  My official place at the end was: overall - 3,408th; for my gender - 1,802nd and for my age designation - 61st!  My official time was 39 minutes and 42 seconds.  It was very easy.  I'm contemplating (but please don't hold me to it!) the 12km walk next year.

Our Company sponsored 11 staff members - one of them (the Japanese man pictured here behind the Kenyan runners) ran the marathon and the rest of us were divided between the 12km and 4km courses.  We were lucky to have a lovely fine day.  I ended up taking off my jacket, tying it around my waist and walking in short sleeves.  That was something you wouldn't normally expect to be doing on a winter's morning!

In the afternoon we went to help celebrate my aunt's 90th birthday with lots of food and catching up with cousins I haven't seen for a long time.  I must admit I was rather tired by the time we got home!

fun run, family
