does anyone out there have any suggestions for music that i could sing at an episcopalian wedding? i was going to sing an Ave Maria, but the rector just emailed me and said it wasn't appropriate since nowhere in the service were they going to be praying to Mary. guh. details.
anyway, i need something i can sing as a solo with a piano/organ accompanist. my range is anywhere from alto 1 to soprano 1. i'd prefer to sing something classical (e.g. in Latin) because i don't really do the god thing. if i could avoid singing a hymn, i would be soooo very happy. but i'd welcome hymn recommendations, too, because at this point, i'm desperate!
the ceremony is june 25th, so i'd need to get music almost immediately.
help!!!
ETA: found one. or rather the rector of the church my mom is getting hitched at found one and cleverly co-erced me into agreeing to sing it. well, maybe it wasn't as devious as all that.
Rector: here, i actually have the music for this piece and you should sing it.
m.e.: *resists urge to spitefully refuse out of sheer contrariness*
Rector: i could fax it to you today...
m.e.: *a brief skirmish ensues between contrariness and laziness...laziness kicks contrariness's butt to next Tuesday*
m.e.: all right.
so the fat lady has sung, so to speak. and it looks like the winner is "The Call" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. i've never heard it, but the lyrics look decent. thanks go out to
mizbean and mr.bean for all their help and suggestions!!!
