ren faire

so i attended the connecticut rennaissance faire this weekend with ray and alaina; 'twas fun. fun, despite the part where we got freaking lost in freaking connecticut and took two hours to get there, due to the *brilliant* organizers moving the faire to hebron (which is about ten minutes from hartford) and also in spite of the very, very wet rain which fell with varying levels of intensity for the majority of the time we spent at the faire (wool becomes extraordinarily heavy when wet). nevertheless, it was a good time; we saw whip crackers, heard a story, watched the poprah show and later the joust, all of which was thoroughly enjoyable.

of note, and probably requiring some explanation: the "poprah" show is an excellent and rather R rated comedy show involving two guys dressed as clergymen, a nun, a scullery wench, zoltan the adequate, and two members of the audience, one referred to as "that guy there" and the other filling the role of the "designated curser". when the cast feels that the jokes are starting to fall flat, or really whenever they want they set themselves up to point out "that guy there" who jumps up and waves his arms; at which point everyone cheers to make it seem as though we're having a really good time. the designated curser is in place because the cast isn't supposed to swear during the show (not that it stopped them). ideally, whenever they would otherwise curse, they defer or whisper to the designated curser, who then shouts out the appropriate curses.

ray bought some cheapish (but still cool) bracers, and alaina was going to purchase a cloak, until we realized that the '45' was the length, not the price (a somewhat forbidding 95 dollars) and that was the end of that. i actually spent far less money than i expected to, which is cool, though i really wanted a good pair of bracers myself.

that's all for now.
