Maleficent thought it was a foolish idea to use the Dark Curse, just as Rumpelstiltskin had teased that she wasn’t strong enough for something so dark, but Regina knew differently. She knew this was the only way to get her revenge - the only way she would be able to finally get her happily ever after. She knew when it came down to it, her whole life was a game of wits, and this was the smartest thing she’s ever done. And she wasn’t going to stand people doubting her intelligence or decision making.

She didn’t care that Maleficent was her only friend, or that Rumpelstiltskin had been her mentor for years. They were wrong, and she was going to show them all - only she wasn’t. If she did this curse correctly, then no one would know that they had been cursed. It was the beauty of it all. She was going to rule them all, and they would never know the truth.

And so she stole the curse back from her only friend, made a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, and then cut out her father’s heart. There was no turning back now, and no matter how wretched she felt, she was going to follow through because it was the only way. It was her only chance and she wanted it so bad.

And then the black smoke billowed through the enchanted forest, and engulfed them all.

The town was perfect - her world was perfect. She was the mayor of this Storybrooke, which seemed fitting, and her number one huntsman was her sheriff. The first day she went and said hello to everyone she could find, trying to determine if they were all oblivious to their other lives. Immediately she felt satisfied - content. She longed to show her father the world she had created, but knew that she couldn’t take it back now, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to entirely.

Weeks went by, although time seemed to stop in Storybrooke, as she noticed that the clocks didn’t move and no one aged. Soon time began to blend in all together and she forgot how long she had been a part of this world. Time was healing her wounds, but her heart was still aching for something else - something tangible that she could hold onto. Therefore one day while walking by the school, she decided she was ready to have a child. To have something that could love her unconditionally for the rest of their existence together.

The only option was to go to Rumpel Mr. Gold and see if he could find her a child - after all his fairytale counterpart had been a sort of procurer of babies. Storybrooke was a whole different world, but then in some ways it was exactly the same. She wasn’t sure whether to be frightened or comforted, but then again she never was that adapt at registering her emotions.

“What can I do for you dearie?” He asked, and it just about made her skin crawl.

“I’d like… I’d like to adopt a baby.” She admitted, daring herself not to be embarrassed or unsure in front of him.

“Ahhh… Well, let me see what I can do for you.” He said with an impish smile. “But, dearie, what can you offer me?” He asked with a flicker in her eyes of something she remembered long ago. “We could strike a deal.” He suggested finally, and she managed to swallow tightly.

“A deal? What exactly did you have in mind, Mr. Gold?” She questioned, her eyes wide, trying not to betray herself.
