Separated at birth, reunited in a Julia Stiles movie

Friday night I watched a Netflix film, one of those that I just randomly added because it turned up on the "Recommended" screens. I had never heard of it, I barely read the description, I just took the leap. I'm craaaaazy like that.

It was called "Mysterious Skin" and it was quite good, albeit disturbing and damned hard to watch in places. It starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who we all remember from "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "10 Things I Hate About You." He was very good in it, actually, and it seems like he's well on his way to a good indie-film career.

But one thing kept distracting me throughout the entire film. I was continually struck by it, and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

When did Joseph Gordon-Levitt turn into Heath Ledger?

Heath:

Joseph:

They could be twin brothers, yo. It's eerie. It was even eerier watching the movie because the effect is more pronounced in motion. He was so reminiscent of especially Heath-as-Ennis that it kept jerking me out of the movie (which at times was kind of a good thing, honestly).
