It was quiet and dark in Kanon's room. It was already midnight so everyone in the house was already asleep.

Kanon too, was already lying on her bed, eyes closed and breathing evenly.

But she wasn't sleeping.

She just can't sleep. She's been trying for hours now. So many thoughts were invading her mind. She'd really like to sleep, though. Her body was so exhausted, she could barely feel it. But her mind just wouldn't let her sleep.

She sighed and opened her eyes. She sat up and stretched her arms to her side table to reach for her iPad. She entered her set combination and her screen unlocked. She frowned when she saw a still of Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable dancing. She must have not exited her video player properly earlier.

She tried not to think about the movie she watched earlier -- one of the reasons she couldn't sleep -- and went to iTunes. She put her player in shuffle and closed her eyes as the music started. She hoped this would lull her to sleep. She still needs to get up early tomorrow for S/mileage's guest appearance in Music Japan.

It seemed like it was working. Kanon was becoming more and more relaxed as she listened to Morning Musume's Aruiteru.

But then the song ended and Colbie Calliat's Realize started playing.

Kanon opened her eyes, wide awake.

She groaned, feeling she really wouldn't be having any sleep tonight. The song just reminded her of all the things that's been nudging her mind recently.

'All the things' pertaining to her best guy friend: Morimoto Ryutaro.

They've been friends since she had found and helped a lost six years old Natsune at one of the studios, but they've only became close right before Ryutaro debuted as a member of Hey!Say!JUMP in 2007. He had accidentally told her that he would be debuting and he made her promise not to tell anyone even Natsune because it was supposed to be a secret. And after that, they sort of started talking a lot and sharing more secrets with each other.

But recently, something changed. Ever since September of last year, she and Ryutaro have been seeing more of each other. She didn't know how it started, it just did. Ryutaro more often than not would visit her, and whenever she's free he would invite her to hang out at their home. Sometimes they would even hang out with his friends from school.

At first it was a little awkward because she felt a little left out. She was basically an outsider, as they were all classmates. But then she got close to them and started anticipating these friendly meetings.

And then the teasing started. Their friends just always imply that she and Ryuu are 'romantically involved' or whatever. And Ryuu would just go along with it! Laughing hard whenever they start teasing. They would refer to her as 'Ryuu's girl' or refer to Ryuu as 'Kanon-chan's b*tch.' Rude but Ryutaro definitely doesn't seem to mind.

And then there's these simple gestures he does. He had always been nice and gentle to her, but recently… his actions just doesn't seem clear; the reason behind them. And even his words… They just confused her.

It's been weeks since Ryuu had started going first to her HQ after his classes so he could walk her home. It was very nice of him but he didn't really have to do it. What's more, his classes ends at around 5pm and her practice usually end around 7pm so he'd have to wait for two hours for her. But he does it anyway.

And just last week when she was feeling down, he was just so sweet. She had called him and told him she just wanted to talk. She told him she was feeling like she's somehow being left out because her childhood friends feels like they're so far away now. Some were already in university, some working, some older ones even already have their own family and there she was, still in the same place. It wasn't like she was unhappy being an idol, but she just felt like her world stopped but her friends' moved on and little by little, she couldn't understand their life anymore. It was like there was a wall between them.

Ryuu had listened the whole time she was talking and when she was done, she was surprised at how serious he replied. How sweet and sincere he was. He told her that he understood exactly what she was saying and that they couldn't really do anything about it because it was just how it is. And then he told her that if her world is stopped then so was his. And he wouldn't want it to move unless Kanon's moved cause he never would want Kanon to feel like he'd left her. Kanon could still hear the words said in Ryuu's voice: "I'll always be here for you."

It made her feel different, his words. Somehow, she wasn't sure what to it of it. Was it normal for a friend to say those words? She guessed it was, but somehow it was there was something more.

And then just the other day when it was her off; she was invited by Chizuko, one of Ryuu's classmates to hang out in their home. Of course, Ryuu would be there. She gladly take on the offer and went to their place. Ryuu and the others were already there and they were eating ice cream. Chizuko had apologized to Kanon then, because there were no more ice cream. Kanon just laughed and said it was okay. But then Ryuu offered his to her. They had a little argument with Ryuu insisting her to have it and Kanon insisting he didn't need to give it to her. And then Ryuu said they should just share. Kanon was about to say it was unnecessary but then Ryuu had already taken a spoonful of the ice cream and fed it to her, saying "It's strawberry. Your favorite. Just eat."

That was still normal-Ryutaro. But how he looked at her when he was feeding her… It made her feel a shiver run down her spine.

And then the others started teasing them once more.

And just earlier he send an email to her. It was the chain-mail. In its 'rules' you'd have to send it to five friends and tell them what songs you would dedicate for them. In Ryuu's mail, there was an attached mp3 file of the song he was dedicating for her. It was 'Realize.' It was originally by Colbie Calliat but what Ryuu sent was a cover by a male singer… Nathaniel something.

Kanon had heard the song before, and she'd liked it. But she didn't actually know its meaning. Ryuu had said in his message that it was his favorite song (which surprised Kanon since it wasn't the genre Ryuu usually listens to) and that he always think about her when he hears it.

So she looked up the internet for its meaning and just grew more confused.

If you just realize what I've just realized then we'd be perfect for each other and we'll never find another…

Was Ryuu implying something? Or is she reading too much into it? Does Ryuu even know the meaning of the song? It can be that he just likes it… And all the other things… It might just be him being friendly…

She remembered Aya's words about the issue.

"I'm not sure… but I think… well, he's a boy and he's a bit cold if you ask me and him being like that… I don't know. But I think there is something more."

And then she watched Kim Possible movie… and she saw them and not Kim and Ron. What got to her most was the last song in the movie, 'Could It Be.' She was just so confused.

She jumped when her phone suddenly rang. She looked at the clock to see it was already pass 1am.

Who could be calling her?

She took her phone and felt somehow nervous when she saw Ryuu's name. She shook her head and answered.

"Hello?"

"You're still up. Can't sleep?" He said.

"You're still up…" She just said.

"It's Saturday tomorrow. You have work early in the morning." He said.

Kanon sighed. "Yeah, can't sleep."

"Why?" Ryuu asked.

"I'm just… thinking about stuffs." Kanon said, lying back on her bed. "It's just… well, it's not like I can tell you." She said honestly.

"Why can't you tell me?" Ryuu asked, sounding a little surprised. "Is it about me?"

"Don't flatter yourself." Kanon said hastily.

"So it is about me. What is it?" Ryuu asked.

"It's not about you, baka." Kanon said.

Ryuu laughed. "You're lying. Even earlier. You snapped too quickly. Usually you roll your eyes first then you snap."

"I don't do that." Kanon said, feeling her face flushed. Why does he know her so well??

"Yes you do, and now you're trying to change the subject. What is it?" Ryuu asked gently.

"It's nothing." Kanon said, putting her face in one of her pillows, making her voice a little muffled.

"Is it something I did?" He asked.

"No… yes… no. No." Kanon said.

Ryuu was quiet for a long while that Kanon said, "Ryuu..?"

"I'm not being very clear, am I?" He suddenly said.

"Huh?"

"I'm confusing you." Ryuu said.

"Right now, you are…" Kanon just said. And then Ryuu laughed.

"You're not reading into this too much." He just said. Kanon gaped.

"Go to sleep now, you have work tomorrow--I mean later." He said. "Good night and I love you." He said and hang up.

Kanon stared at her phone.

Well, problem solved. But she knew she wouldn't get any sleep with that either. She felt more awake than ever. She didn't know why, but she couldn't stop herself from grinning. Once more she opened her iPad and went to iTunes to play her new favorite song.
