part 4 I only realized that Yuto is holding my hand when his gripped tighten as we entered the house. There were already so many guests, and here we were looking a little worse for wear. So many eyes darted towards us as we made our way upstairs.
We stopped on the landing as we heard a man's voice. It came from one of our guest rooms. Yuto froze and dropped my hand. I looked at him in confusion.
"Go change to your dress or whatever." He said monotonously.
I just stared at him, a little bewildered.
He sighed. "It's my dad. He's a little obsessive compulsive." He said nonchalantly. "I guess I pissed him off again."
"Oh." I just said.
"Just go. I'll meet you later." He said, as he turned to the room, opened the door and closed it behind him.
I hesitated in going. There was just something odd about Yuto since he heard his father's voice.
I took a step toward my room, but changed stopped and turned back, anyway. I was curious and I felt a little guilty. It was my fault if he got in trouble. Maybe I should go and explain...
I stepped towards the guest room and silently opened the door. But I immediately stopped as I watched shocked and frozen, as a man -- Yuto's dad, no doubt -- strike him across his face.
They didn't notice me. And I really couldn't move. I couldn't see Yuto's face. He too, wasn't moving.
I realized there were other people in the room. There was a very beautiful woman standing just behind Yuto's dad--Yuto's mom. Kanon, Yuto's sister, and Ryutaro are also there.
"You're irresponsible!" Yuto's dad said. "You just won't stop disgracing me. I should have never agreed to you. You do not fit to be heir. Kanon is obviously the right choice, all along." He continued saying, looking at Yuto menacingly. Still, Yuto didn't move; not even a flinch.
I felt a little dizzy. I always complain about my dad, but he'd never hit me. He doesn't listen to me, but he'd never purposely say words to wound me. And all of this was just because Yuto is late for a business party.
"I can talk to Inoo." His father muttered, looking like he's talking more to himself. "I can't have you ruin everything for the two of us. It doesn't matter which of his sons, Kanon is the better choice--"
Yuto finally moved. I still couldn't see his face because his back was turned to me, but his voice sounded pleading, "Father, I apologized. Please--"
"I can't, Father." Kanon suddenly said. She spoke quietly, I almost didn't hear it.
Finally, I saw Yuto's face as he turned to Kanon. He looked shocked and a little panicked.
Yuto's dad also turned to Kanon. "You can't?" He asked, raising a brow at his daughter.
"I…" Kanon was looking at the floor. "I can't do it, after all. I'm in love with someone." She said, bravely looking at her father.
"What?!" Their father's voice was loud.
He approached Kanon but before he could reach her, both Yuto and Ryutaro covered her. Unconsciously, it seems, Kanon grasped Ryuu's sleeves. And it was apparent her father realized who she was talking about.
"Please, father." Yuto tried again. "I won't mess up again. Please let Kanon and Ryuu be."
Yuto's father looked furious.
"I love him." Kanon said, looking like she's about to cry. "And he loves me."
"And I love Shinju." Yuto suddenly said and I gasped, feeling a little overwhelmed. After a while, I realized he must have been only saying that to convince his father, but it was still a little shocking to hear.
"Please, father." Yuto said again. "I'll do better."
It seems like Yuto's dad wasn't hearing him though. He was still looking very angry, eyes locked on Ryuu and Kanon. He raised his hand, but before he could do anything else, Yuto's mom gently tugged on his arm. Yuto's dad stopped, looking calmer.
He gave one last disgusted look at the two and then turned to Yuto.
"One last chance." He said coldly, and then turned to the door.
I felt a shiver run through my spine as we locked gaze. He was surprised to see me there; that was for sure.
"I'm sorry." I said immediately and the other occupants in the room turned to me.
"I didn't mean… I wanted to explain that it was my fault that we were late… I didn't realize-- I'm sorry." I said, babbling away. I was so nervous.
But Yuto's dad merely looked at me and stride outside the room, his wife following after him.
When they were gone, Kanon started crying and I rushed to Yuto.
"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly.
"You… saw… How much have you heard?" He asked; looking closed off.
"Never mind that." I said hastily. "Come to my room, I have an ointment for that." I said, indicating his face.
He nodded a little distractedly but followed me without protest.
When we were in my room, he sat down one of my plush seat and sighed tiredly.
I went straight to my bathroom, took my first aid kit and went back to the room. I had always been a bit clumsy so my medicine cabinet always has a complete first aid kit.
I sat across from him and open the ointment, pouring some in a cotton ball.
I handed it to him and he gently applied it to his cheek.
"How much have you heard?" He asked again.
"Enough…" I said, frowning a bit.
"Sorry you had to witness all the drama." He said.
I just shook my head.
After generously applying it to his face, he gave the cotton back.
"Thank you." He muttered.
"Don't mention it." I said automatically.
We were quiet as I arranged my first aid kit. I knew he was watching me, and somehow I can't look back at him. I was still a little embarrassed at being discovered of eavesdropping.
"Would it be okay if I ask you another favor?" He suddenly asked, and I looked up at him.
"What favor?" I asked, feeling a little nervous.
"Would it be bearable to you if we went along with our parents for a while?" He asked. "We can just pretend. It's not like they really care about the marriage itself, they just want our companies to merge."
"What do you mean, exactly?" I asked carefully.
"That we go through the wedding." He said, looking very seriously. "That's what they want. After that… after some months, maybe, we can file a divorce. They wouldn't be able to prevent us from doing that."
I knew he noticed I reacted a little negatively at his words. It was just that, I hated that word. 'Divorce.' I was inevitably reminded by my mom and dad. It was the same thing for them: a fixed marriage and then a divorce. My dad didn't really love my mom. I'm not sure for a fact, but I think it was Kei-niichan's mom that my father loved.
Yuto looked as if he was regretting saying anything, but before he could take his words back, I spoke.
"Okay."
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"I'm getting a little tired of their naggings, as well."
The door suddenly opened and Yuri entered my room.
He blinked at us. "Both of you… You're both here…" He said; looking very surprised.
"Lil," Yuto called him with his nickname for him. This guy just have the habit of baptizing everyone, it seems. "Anything wrong?"
"Well, dad is looking for you, Shin." He turned to me. "And your father…" He turned to Yuto.
"We've talked." Yuto just said.
Yuri only nodded. He turned to me once more. "And Shin, Nii-chan's going to be leaving sooner than planned…"
I perked up at that. "How soon?" I asked. Kei-niichan was supposed to leave for Canada next month for some business. He'd be staying there for a while. Yuri knew how important this was for me. Kei-niichan's the one who's always kept me sane with everything that's been happening lately.
"Tomorrow night." He said, frowning a little at me.
"Oh." I just said.
Too soon. It was just too soon.
Yuri sat beside me. "Shouldn't you be changing or something?" He asked me. His shoulder is touching mine. I smiled a little, knowing it's his small way of trying to soothe me. We were still a little awkward sometimes, but we're making progress.
I guess it wouldn't be too hard to be away from Kei-nii…
"I guess…" I said and I looked at them. "You two, get out."

AN:
-very much rushed.
-kei's mom is the one their dad really loved. that's why their dad didn't mind kei being heir (he chose arrange kei, instead of yuri, to marry kanon--before the yutoxshin).
-their dad isn't really that bad. I want to show that here. He was just raising his children the way he was raised. He's thinking his decisions are for the best of his children (like forbidding kei to be with mami… little harsh, but he sincerely believes it’s for the best). Shinju's problem with her dad is that he makes every decision for her. She doesn't have any choice because it's already chosen for her. It suffocates her. She's a free-spirited girl and doesn't do with being caged (And I guess, it’s also might have been because was a little bit spoiled by her niichan who lets her do whatever she wants behind their dad's back). I think shinju's complains is very much justified. She feels like her dad doesn’t know her. And she’s lonely because of that. So sometimes she does things (maybe subconsciously) to make her father look at her.
--ooookaayyy.. I think med is just making me weirder than ever. First my last keimi fic filled with medical terms and biochem explanations and now a chapter of parrot filled with psychoanalyzation. /shot please tell me if I’m getting too much.
