internet sharing

I have an iMac running tiger connected to the internet using a standard [not wireless] cable modem. i also have a newer MBP running leopard, this conects to the internet thru an airport network hosted by the iMac. in this situation is it normal for the MBP to have a considerably slower net conection than the iMac? assuming the airport reception is at ts best of course.

if not, what might be wrong and how could i fix it?
