First off the Ladies… One of the problems I had with the last Barenaked Ladies CD (Everything for Everyone) was the amount I had to listen to it before i liked it. Okay there were some great or catchy songs that got me straight away but it took me four or five listens to like the album. Whereas cd's like Stunt and Maroon are still two of my favourite cd's ever because I completely fell in love with them first listen. With Barenaked Ladies Are Me I’ve had the same problem as the last time though.
I’m not sure why but it took me four or five listens to like it as a whole cd. There are some tracks namely Bull In A China Shop and Wind It Up that I loved immediately but mostly it’s taken a couple of listens to even like a few of them. Still it’s growing on me. The only song I’m really not sure of is Jim’s song Peterborough and the Kawarthers which I think makes the least sense of any Ladies song ever. I have listened to it half a dozen times and I still have absolutely no idea what the hell it’s about. Which is weird cause usually their songs are pretty self-explanatory. On top of that as awesome of a Bass player Jim is he should not be allowed near a mic. I mean he’s not bad but when you compare him to Ed, Steve and even Kevin his voice just isn’t as good.
Also got Third Eye Blinds Greatest Hits. I’m not sure how a band that has had only one commercial hit and only three CD’s can release a Greatest Hits but they are one of my favourite bands so I had to get it. Most of the songs are from the first two CD’s with two from their last CD and 3 previously unreleased B-Sides. I still prefer their older stuff to their newer stuff but the CD is worth it just for the insert that has a commentary by Stephen Jenkins (the lead singer and songwriter) about each song and what he was thinking when he wrote it.
And have finally listened to Evanescance’s new cd which I really like (especially Cloud Nine and Call Me When You’re Sober) and the Rockwiz Duets CD which I love. The highlight of that one has got to be Ella Hooper singing Islands In the Stream with Troy Casser-Daly (wow now there was a sentence I never thought I’d write.
