I write on occasion... I've been told I'm pretty good at it. Problem is, I can never (except for these entries) seem to sit down and write very much any legnth of time. I dunno if it's ADD, poor discipline, lack or inspiration, or just me being lazy but I don't seem to get too much done.
Anyway, though, I do manage to occasionally finish a few things, so I thought I'd share one of them. The following is a poem I wrote years ago. I don't do a lot of poetry, as I can only do the rhyming kind (to me, if it doesn't rhyme, it's not poetry, it's sentences broken up in random places) and then I usually put them to a song beat.
This is a simple piece, I hope you enjoy.
If you're curious, the "tune" to this is the song "Wish (Komm Zu Muir)" from the Run Lola Run soundtrack. Click

"I Wish"
by
Mike Allan
(sometimes...)
I wish I were a shadow,
so easy to hide,
I wish I were inside-out
so they could see the beauty inside
I wish I were a painter,
creating life on a board,
I wish I was rich,
all the money I could hoard.
I wish I were a king,
all under my command,
I wish things were simple,
so I could understand.
I wish I were a woman,
giving birth to a child,
I wish I were a tiger
running free in the wild.
I wish I were a Savior,
pointing the way,
I wish I was a hero
saving the day.
I wish I were a lover,
a woman in each arm
I wish I was a rye-catcher
keeping children from harm
I wish I were a dancer,
so graceful I could glide,
I wish I were a closet,
with no skeletons inside.
I wish I were a bird
so I could fly free
I wish (oh I wish)
I could be happy
just being me
