Eh heh heh. We got some dried dates for recipes my mum wants to try. I decided to eat one, and do you know what I found inside?
A new experiment! Whee!!
From my reading, it sounds like date palms are relatively easy to start from seed. So I just need to find another pot to stick it in. In other plant news, the tamarind is doing well-its sickly pale leaves (since it was started inside) actually have some green in them now, and it looks like some new green leaves are sprouting. The other thing in the pot died, though. I put the pot outside since the weather had warmed up, and then we got a ton of rain, and then some hot hot sun. So I think it either got too wet or too hot or both. Oh well. The tamarind was more interesting anyway, because if I was right about the other thing being a lemon, well, I've already got two grapefruits and they're probably not that different.
(How many trees-that-will-never-produce-anything do I have now? Grapefruits, tamarind, avocado... perhaps soon a date palm...)
Oh, I also bought a couple caladium(s?) at work today-one dark green and dark red-pink, and one white/light green with dark pink spots. I planted them in a pretty pink pot! They're sold as annuals, but I intend to take them inside and keep them alive over winter. They seem similar to elephant ears, after all.
I really should find my own place before winter, because there simply won't be space for all these plants in my room here.
Oh but speaking of elephant ears, I noticed while reading Cipher that a lot of people had them in their houses. Anise even had one in her bedroom!! I was all excited about that, ha ha ha. And ooh, wow-I just did today's daily fashion drawing (which I'm cleaning up to post right now!) and realized that one of my earrings may very well be based on an elephant ear leaf!! Kyaaaa, it's fate!!
Okay, so here's
some drawings:
I was kinda frustrated/tired/blerg last night... But not the whole day; just at night. It was late and I'd again not gotten much accomplished so I was inwardly and outwardly lamenting (aka complaining to my mum) how slow my progress on the current A2Z book is (so much research... I spent one day just looking for pictures of the Mackinac Island Grand Hotel check in desk, and then there was the dining room, entrance doors, to say nothing of suits of armour and warhorses and Jeanne d'Arc and Rocky movies and Fort Mackinac and blagh. I complain about this every time, don't I? I think each new book I do sets a new record number of reference images. (I make folders for each book, although for this one ALSO used images I already had for things like koalas)
But today I'm mostly happy again, because I'm avoiding thinking about the A2Z book (at the moment, anyway). Heh. I have plants, and yummy date fruit, and two days off from Flowerland!!
