How come for all (i may be wrong) articles of clothing worn on your legs (pants, slacks, khakis etc. the list goes on forever) you can't make the article of clothing singular w/out first adding "a pair of" but for articles of clothing that go on your arms and hands e.g. gloves, you can... glove.
