Hospital Story

Grandma ended up in the hospital again tonight. She had been feeling sick since this morning when she woke up. All day she has been throwing up and progressively got worse. By the time I got home she called to have me take her to Kaiser to see her doctor. They in turn sent her to the hospital.

It was kind of scary at the doctor's office too. Her blood pressure dropped WAY down and she went into that same out of it state she went into when the paramedics got called to her house last time. Shortly there after she threw up then seemed to wake up.

When she left Kaiser I went to her house to close up for the night, feed her cats and pick up some more clothes for her. I also took my laptop because I figured it might be a while.

The ER here has changed a lot since even the last time we went. I am not too keen on knowing these things. -_- At any rate Grandma got a corner room. It had a TV but she never used it. We stayed there for about three and a half hours while they did some tests and made sure she was refilled on electrolytes.

In the end the doctor said she just has the flu. It's a particularly bad strain so it made her more sick than usual and hit her fast. With her not eating this only compounded the problem and the throwing up dehydrated her.

They hooked her up to an IV for the duration of her stay and got her some water to drink. They also gave her anti nausea medicine so she wont get dizzy or sick from just walking around. They also gave her some stuff to help with all the acid in her stomach now.

They released her around 10pm and I took her home. I went to the store and picked up some jello and chicken broth because she will need to be on a liquid diet for a few days. Other than that she is fine. I wanted to stay the night with her but I am so tired I don't know that I would be any good. She was certain she was fine anyway and insisted that I not stay. I don't know that she will be 100% good but she is doing better and she promised to keep the phone next to her so she could call if needed.

She should be fine she just needs rest now.
