Something quite strange happened to me today. I was at home sleeping in my bed, when my sister hands me the home phone and it is a lady with a...weird voice who goes by the name of Stephanie informing me that Lindsay (my roomate from first year) gave her my phone number to contact in case she needed a favour.
Ok...so perhaps this is plausible. Still strange. So she proceeds to tell me that she would like me to record her voice message because she doesn't have her old roomates anymore, and now people are confused when they call and hear their names on it...and she wants me to do it because it would "spice things up". This is even more strange. She then proceeds to give me her personal phone number and passwords to get into her voice mail to change it. This is where I kind of go HUH? I wouldn't ever give a complete stranger my password to my phone. That's asking for trouble. She doesn't know me, what if I was crazy and would change her settings around? Either way, seeing as I am not I decide to probe some more.
I ask her, so how exactly did you meet Lindsay? And she says at the underground Pub. And this is where little red flags go off in my head. Although Lindsay liked to have fun and drink, I'm pretty sure she hated pub, a lot, and boycotted it for a while. And if she did go to pub I don't think underground would have been her first choice. For the sake of going on with the story let's pretend she did go to pub, I don't think she'd give a random stranger my HOME phone number. I don't even think she knows that off by heart. Perhaps my cell....ok....but this girl called my house.
Either way, after further probing, and asking when did she ask Lindsay if she can do this, she says a few months ago, but she met her at pub in 2006. And then I tell her ok that's fine I'll do it just as soon as I talk to her and see if Lindsay really did say that I could do her a favour. And at this point, this Stephanie girl says that she is leaving for a week somewhere, and she needs it done within the next half an hour. I need it done right now! to me is a warning sign of something fishy that is going on.
When I couldn't get a hold of Lindsay, I told this girl and she seemed surprised, I then told her that Lindsay is out of the country, which anyone who knows Lindsay would know, and she acted surprised. End result. I am not recording anything for her, until I hear back from Lindsay...although I doubt this Stephanie will try to contact me again.
