This weekend is a spending spree for me. Yesterday I put a deposit on my kitchen island. I am so thrilled to have that decision made and done. I ended up going with the cabinet maker who I really liked when he came to my house. I felt he and I had the best synergy in designing this thing - he listened to me, offered excellent suggestions, and asked great questions. He came in on the low end of the range of the estimates I received and, interestingly given that I picked him off the internet, I have received two personal recommendations for him. I cannot wait to see the finished product installed in my kitchen!
I am going tomorrow to buy myself a chest freezer to keep in the basement. I don't like canned vegetables, for the most part, but I would like to be able to continue to benefit from the bounty of my garden. Plus, with a chest freezer in the basement, I can buy the crazy inexpensive box of cow parts from the butcher on Slaughterhouse Hill for the dogs.
My last expense for the weekend is a Garmin Vivofit. We received stupid cheap fitness trackers through the college in April and while I found the MovBand to have very limited use, it really did motivate me to get more exercise during those last few weeks of the semester. In the summer, I do not need the motivation, but that is when I discovered just how limited that thing was. It was horrible at tracking cycling, awarding me 1 mile for each 8-10 miles I biked. I literally earned more "miles" per hour shopping at the mall than I did bicycling. It also was not waterproof. Hence, the Garmin Vivofit, one of the few waterproof activity trackers out there. I keep trying to swim in the mornings before work but I fall out of the habit as I get busy. My hope is that having this device will motivate me to continue swimming and also to amp up my workout as the semester progresses. The Vivofit is the second purchase I have made on Ebay lately, after not really using Ebay for years. But I like saving money, and this was cheaper by $40 on Ebay (my other purchase was new handles for my cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, at $1 a piece!).
In the non-monetary excitement, I am getting in a good hike today and a kayak trip tomorrow to wrap up my summer.
