Swimming and hiking this weekend

Last Friday me and nydiwiel had an impromptu sisters night. I wanted to go swimming so we went to the public swimming pool. I'm not sure, if you have the same sort of system in the States as we have here in Finland where practically every munipical has it's own public indoors swimming pool. There are four in Espoo alone, six if you also count the one in Kauniainen and the small in Olari. There are over ten of them in Helsinki. A public swimming pool like that always has a big pool and a smaller pool for children, saunas, showers and changing rooms with lockers for men and women. The newer ones and the renowated ones can also have a steam sauna, jacuzzi, cold water pool, a pool for toddlers, a pool with a strong current, a therapy pool with really warm water with water jets and stuff etc. And since they're funded with taxpayers' money, they're inexpensive. In Espoo you can go swimming at the public pool for 4e while kids and students etc get in for 2e, so it's pretty cheap.

The oldest pool in Espoo is at Tapiola and the newest is at Keski-Espoo. The public swimming pool at Leppävaara is probably in the worst condition at the moment. When I was in school we had swimming lessons at Kivenlahti during sports classes.

We did some aquajogging (vesijuoksu) with Nydi, which has become pretty popular in Finland. It looks silly, but it's supposed to be very efficient excercise.

Nydi wanted to rent some movies so we did that and gave our best effort to counter all that excersice with junk food while watching said movies. :p We watched Cloverfield, which was scary, and X-Men 3, which was a good way to null the brain after Cloverfield. On Saturday we had a gaming night and Nydi and hurmeenhuiske made some good food for us. ^^ I learned that shrimps, which I don't particularly like, don't taste half bad with some garlic powder mixed with them. And on Sunday I went to Nuuksio national park with some other students. All of my friends had had to cancel on me so I wasn't at first sure, if anyone was coming. I was fully prepared to just head back home, if no one had showed up at the meeting place, but four people showed up, so we went hiking to Nuuksio. ^^ The weather was perfect, it couldn't have been better and the group wanted to walk the 7 kilometers long Korpinkierros -route, so we hiked that. I hadn't hiked that before. In total we walked something like 11km.

I've hanged out with these people at Uni, but I don't really know them all that well, so it was strange how much I babbled through the course of the trip. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we practically spent the whole day together and it was fun. Conclusion: if you want to get to know an introverted person better, don't take them to a party but instead take them hiking with a small group of people. :p

At the end of the hike we went to the Haukkalampi pond to barbeque by the open fire. We barbequed some sausages, meatballs and marsmellos. All though I think that marsmellos taste better just as they are.

Something very strange took place by the pond. We noticed that there was a wire going from the opposite side of the pond to our side as there are these cliffs at the other side. When I was washing my hands at the shore I noticed that there was a guy getting ready to glide down the wire from the other side and there was another guy on a rubber boat with a camera at the center of the pond. When the guy took off the cliff and towards my shore I first noticed that he had these white wings and he was flapping them like he was flying. And when he got closer I saw that he had a head like a chicken on him. It was a flying chicken-man! In the middle of Nuuksio national park. It was pretty surreal. They did the whole thing a second time and later on we heard from some other people that they had been filming a DVD of "pellehypyt", which I don't know how to translate. Clown dives? It's a humor act where people dressed up in various costumes do funny dives into pools to entertain people.I've started to watch Northern Exposure (Villi Pohjola) and I've watched the first six episodes so far over the weekend. It was my favorite show when I was young and I haven't seen it since then. It takes place in a little town in Alaska where this young doctor from New York ends up working as a doctor against his will. The show's still as good as I remembered. And unlike most of my other favorite shows, this one leaves me smiling after each episode. Sure it has drama, but there's always something that makes you feel good by the end. ^^ My favorite character was Chris (John Corbett) when I was younger, now I also like Maggie (Janine Turner) and Ed... eh, the actor who playes Ed is That actor. Wow, it's hard to see that it's the same person. o.oToday I listened to the symphony at home while following the music from my music sheets. And I hate to say that I may have judged Bruckner's fourth prematurely as the third part is awesome. I really liked that part. The fourth part had a lot of tempo changes so it was hard to keep up with it.

At orchestra none of the other violas could make it to the section practise so I had a section practise all on my own. I listened to the symphony in the classroom and copied new fingerings and bowings from my teacher's music sheets. That took surprisinly much time as it has quite many pages, but all in all that time was a lot more productive than the actual tutti part of orchestra, which was just frustrating. We're still not getting anywhere with the symphony. We've gotten so many new players that the level of playing is lower than usually and our conductor is addressing us like we're all children (the youngest ones are something 12-13 years old). I just tend to tune him out when he's talking like that as it's annoying. I'm not 12 and haven't been for a very long time. -_-
