Lovely wonderful wedding. I do like the quick change, to both of them, better that way I think at least for many reasons. And I love the inclusion of their families, because sometimes I read stories and it seems like people forget that have families, Michael's parents and James' grandparents and both of their sisters. It is more than just a bubble of them (or their co-stars who are friends and in a way extended family, which is good, too.)

Your descriptions of the hotels they stay at make my jealous. Out of all of the hotels I have stayed out, I've never stayed at anything that sounds so nice and grand and entertaining. I feel like I need to find one of these places and stay in it just for the hell of it. :D

I was so nervous about actually showing the ceremony bit! Because of course everyone's got their own idea of the perfect wedding, and what if mine wasn't right? But then I thought, they're my characters, and it's my story, and I'm going to write what I think's right for them! :-p ( ... )

I once wrote a ceremony for a fic and I found others quite liked it, even if it wasn't quite the same idea they'd had in mind. And definitely, you can write the ceremony however you'd like ( ... )

I think the POV shifts can be jarring if not handled carefully, yes. I'm always nervous about them. But I try to do it based on whose emotional reaction I think might be most...complex/relevant to the story/character growth. Like, we could've had Michael POV for the top!James, but it's actually most significant for James, emotionally, so it's nice to see that ( ... )

Fucking hell, where are my tissues? Turns out that thing about crying at weddings is true after all...

Although I have to admit, reading about weddings generally sends me off into a momentary daydream about what mine might be like (assuming I ever have one), and while those daydreams aren't always completely happy, I think I am turning into a proper girl, contemplating details and such!

I do, weirdly enough, rather like James' moment of self-doubt, just before the ceremony. That feels very true to this universe, and I do love the idea of them walking down the aisle together - it couldn't be any other way really :)

But it's a good job the next part is up already, with that cliffhanger!

*hands you tissues from over here* *also rather proud of how well it worked*

I was never the sort of person to be fascinated by wedding minutia until my own--a bit for my brother's, but they were the ones making the decisions, then. But there's so much detail to think about, and you want it to be personal, of course...and memorable... With this one, though, I was nervous in regards to actually showing the ceremony! Because of course everyone's got their own idea of the perfect wedding, and what if mine wasn't right? But then I thought, they're my characters, and it's my story, and I'm going to write what I think's right for them! So I did. And pretended that same-sex marriage was legal in California, because it should be. (Any details in mind for your dream wedding? *grin*)

That feels very true to this universe, and I do love the idea of them walking down the aisle together - it couldn't be any other way really :D :D I like that moment of doubt too--that was one of the...not the very first bits I wrote, but close to it. Because of ( ... )

*dabs eyes* Thank you!

I was never the sort of person to be fascinated by wedding minutia

Me either, really. Until recently, oddly enough... (I suspect there are Reasons for this. This one seemed pretty damn perfect to me though :)

(Any details in mind for your dream wedding? *grin*)

The presence of a groom, perhaps? (No, shut up, me...). No, actually, it tends to be a general impression more than anything particularly detailed. I haven't actually been to many weddings myself, so I don't have much to draw on for ideas in that respect. Mostly it's just people being happy, dancing, laughter (you can tell I've thought more about the reception, can't you?). Oh, and a very pretty dress, of course!

I like the idea that it is a last-minute change, unexpected, and that's okay! :-)

And that Patrick is capable to going and working minor miracles, and of course it seems perfectly natural to everybody (whether they know anything about what happened or not...) :)

Ah, yes, those sorts of Reasons...they do tend to prompt such thoughts. I never had a very clear mental picture of what I wanted until we really started planning, and even then it was kind of easy as far as location, since we were--coincidentally--in the same location as where my parents were married! With this one I solved some of the nervousness by trying to really think about what they might want, especially James, in this 'verse, so in theory it works because it's personal to them!

Mostly it's just people being happy, dancing, laughterThe most important parts, really. It's a celebration. :-) I do think weddings should be about who you are as a couple, though--personal in some way. (There is of course such a thing as too much...requiring your guests to come in costume, versus having comic books as centerpieces, for example!) And the dress is a must. Not necessarily hideously expensive, but something special, something you'll feel good in. ( ( ... )

Wedding gift cliffhanger eeee!

The ceremony was so lovely! Sir Ian was so, so perfect, hilarious and touching in a way that really worked on me *pats heart* Also I love James' sassy grandmother :D

And this, I specially love this description: One long leg swung over him, adjusting position, settling down astride Michael’s hips. Sensual, unthinkingly so, and all the more eloquent for that reason: James wasn’t hesitating, wasn’t afraid to fit their bodies together in erotic lines and shapes and curves.

Yes, that was a deliberate cliffhanger choice...but I couldn't resist! (Also, though: I am curious what you think of both gifts! I knew James's to Michael from the beginning, but Michael's gift to James was one of those lightbulb!moments, and then I couldn't believe I'd not thought of it earlier...)

I was a bit worried about the ceremony, just because it had to be so perfect. But then we got that lovely article about Sir Ian officiating for Sir Patrick, and, well. Of course they'd ask him. 9And I love him scolding Michael for answering too quickly. <3 ) Which is to say, I am very very glad it all works! It did have to feel right, for them ( ... )
