So I made an attempt at making
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bars. Because they looked delicious. The recipe called for "Parchment paper" - I just lined the pan with butter, and then had a brilliant idea! Wax paper! Wax paper could totally be synonymous with cooking Parchment paper! (It totally isn't.) Going along with what I thought was a brilliant idea at the time, I lined my pan with an abundance of wax paper, and then buttered that up too.
I then went along with my very long recipe, mashing up graham crackers for the crust, mixing it with a whole lot of butter and chocolate chips, pouring that into the pan, and pressing it up against the sides. I stuck it in the oven to back for six minutes. Six minutes was enough time for the wax paper to conjure up some smoke. Not a very good sign. But I ignored it for the time being, and went on to make the cheesecake filling and the cookie dough that went on top. A while later, I poured the cheesecake filling into the pan and then spooned the cookie dough on top.
So my mom calls (do you all realize how aggravating it is to try to answer the phone while your hands are a mess from trying to use a recipe you've never tried before and you suck at cooking anyway? It's pretty annoying. Everytime the phone rang I wanted to answer and be like "Do you know what I went through just so I could look at my phone and realize it was just a gosh darn telemarketer?!?!") and I talk to her. We hang up, and then I decided that I should inquire to what she knows about wax paper. She didn't know very much. To wikipedia! Wikipedia informs me that wax paper shouldn't be used for baking because it will start smoking (it didn't say anything about catching on fire, which I thought it would have.) Anyway, I was then faced with a serious dilemma and started to concoct harebrained schemes to try to get my uncooked-and-very-crumbly-bars away from the wax paper, and back in pan without losing too much. I tried to flip it over on to a place, but then I started losing the crust all over the place. Eventually I just pulled out the wax paper and pushed the bars back into the pan using a spatula, which worked well enough. Better than any other option, I guess.
Currently, they're cooling. Muahaha. Success. I'll update on if they actually taste good or not later.
