Gerbil Wheel! Because I guess it's too obvious to not play with.
Despite it being an anime, I think fellow Sci-fi Clubbers will enjoy this one:
A masterfully edited music video for the anime Princess Tutu. I don't know what the anime is about precisely, but at the very least I think y'all will enjoy this video, for sheer pretty dramatics and razor-fine editing (so not kidding about the on-beat editing.) using what looks like ballet-fighting. I saw Superman Returns today in 3D at the Imax theater. Well, only four or five scenes were in 3D, and they weren't...that 3D?
I saw the Polar Express at the Imax 3D too, and the train came out of the screen by THIS MUCH whereas Superman..not so much. And the scenes they chose for 3D weren't the optimum scenes for it, either. At the very least I figured the intro with the credits would be 3D, since it would fit perfectly, but no...Weird. Unless it's a Taiwan-only thing.
I did enjoy it, though I wasn't really expecting to, since Superman's never really been my comic book series of choice. That would have the be the Legionnaires and its sister series Legion of Superheroes. Brainiac x Andromeda (before she up and died, fuckers. If she came back to life, I stopped reading [really, my dad stopped buying] long before then.) is pure overcoming-xenophobia love all the way! And if I had to choose a more 'classic' series, then Uncanny Xmen is tied with Fantastic Four. XD Kitty Pride and Lockheed! Susan and that fish guy!
Anyway, Superman Returns: I enjoyed it, though it threw a massive wrench into the Superman canon in the form of asthmatic Jason. Kevin Spacey was fun as Lex Luther. It was clear he had fun playing the role. And much as I hate to say it, Kate Bosworth was good. *dies*
Before the movie, we browsed around the shopping center and...well...I bought 3 new My Little Ponies. They were too cute to resist! And one came in a pearl-peach (skin tone) color, and since I love the rare and unusual, I couldn't help but choose that one. Not to mention the other ones --all in the Crystal Princess series. XD One reminded me of the Twice as Fancy ponies from the earlier generations, only digitally upgraded for the new generation: a gradient two-tone body with a pattern over the torso and legs.
They also had sets that included little bug pony friends. No, really! Mini-ponies with wings and antennae! Bug ponies! Alas, I did not get one of those. Yes, I am a complete and total dork. Shush. Allow me my obsessive needs.
Speaking of obsessive, is it just me or is the Bleach fandom a little...peculiar when it comes to pairings?
Granted, the show makes virtually every imaginable het, yaoi, and yuri pairing canon by sheer overwhelming subtext, so the fast and loose are free to play. But...where's the subtext for Kenpachi x Unohana? This is bizarrely a popular pairing, and while the anime sets up an interesting political tension between the 4th and 11th squads, there doesn't seem to be any direct interplay between the two captains. They're not even opposites, per se; Zaraki Kenpachi doesn't play 'hothead' to Unohana's 'calm.'
That, and Kenpachi...well, he doesn't strike me as being capable of a romantic relationship of any sort. Having a pseudo father/daughter/interdependent relationship with Yachiru seems to push his emotional capabilities to the limits, and even that relationship seems a result of inevitability through kindred experiences than real attachment. It's not that he's stoic; he's not wired for emotions. According to his team, his idea of a 'friend' is someone who can beat him up just as badly as he dishes out --imagine how that translates into a potential 'lover.' Did I miss something in the manga? I know I don't have the bulk of the Soul Society manga arc, so maybe there's more material there for the pair than in the anime. Yes, the 11th Squad's rowdy wounded backed down under Unohana's glare, but...I don't know, if the head medical doctor of the hospital you were staying in came and reminded you with calm relish that you were still under their care, with the implication that they can make things very, very painful for you, wouldn't you quiet down as well?
If he must be paired up with anyone, I'd say it would have to be the same person who's the only candidate for his 'friend' --Ichigo, who is in no hurry to revisit the pain and suffering of 'playing' with Kenpachi. And while that pairing might be fun, it would be difficult: neither is likely to willingly be the bottom for any one round of sex (forget having a permanent uke/seme relationship. It's not happening.) and I'd bet anything they'd settle that issue with a massive fight each time, resulting in needing to heal up before they can get the nookie on.
Unohana...is firm when she needs to be, and seems to harbor a certain vindictive streak for messing with her unit --but that's all. Kenpachi would likely be bored out of his mind. Even if the pair's interest was explained by the fact that Unohana, being a healer, knows how to hurt as well as heal, knows all sorts of dirty tricks and poisons and so forth, Kenpachi isn't interested in anything but physical or spiritual, measurable strength as exhibited in no-holds-barred fighting. The whole of Squad 11 doesn't like non-combative-spiritual magic or any type of demon magic, preferring raw, brute strength --healing magic and its dangerous flipside just aren't worth anything to them.
The mechanics and chemistry of the relationship aside, there's no subtext for it. The two captains don't interact in the anime, and the inter-squad politics seem to exist mostly on the team level; the captains play no part in it.
I don't get the pairing, but what I get even less is the popularity of it. O_o
